국문 초록

사회제도의 거시적 틀에서 볼 때 여성은 언제나 수동적이고 피해자이며 남성은 능동적이고 억압자라는 도식적 이해가 이어져왔다. 특히 기혼여성은 가족 내에서 낮고, 소외되고, 버림받고, 희생하는 他者로 규정되곤 하였다. 그러나 전통사회를 살아간 기혼여성의 삶이 다양하게 반영되어 있는 구비설화는, 여성의 공적 활동이 원천적으로 차단되었던 유교적 사회구조 속에서 기혼여성들이 남성 지배에 무조건 굴종하는 패배자나 희생자의 위치에만 머무르지 않았음을 잘 보여주고 있다. 기혼여성들은 삶의 다양한 전략을 개발하여 자신들이 당면한 문제 상황에 적용함으로써 운명을 개척하고 욕망을 성취해간, 지혜롭고 진취적이며 강인한 인물들임을 발견한다. 그들은 사회구조와 제도의 틀에서는 비록 他者的 존재에 위치하였을지 모르나, 삶의 구체적 實現態 속에서는 주체적이고 주도적인 존재로 살아왔던 것이다. 고난을 극복하고 문제를 해결하고 미래를 개척하고 삶을 주도해가는 자, 이것이 바로 전통사회 기혼여성의 진면목임을 구비설화는 보여주고 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis is to study on the married women's lives in traditional society represented in the Korean folktales. We have taken it granted that a married woman in traditional society was no longer regarded as a subjective person but a victim of a male-dominated society. However, these folktales display that it is not all true. The folktale-bearers demonstrate that a married woman successfully manages the household economy and become a leader of the family in substance. The married women were appeared to be multi-players in the Korean folktales. That is, they were children-breeders, husband's managers, home-administrators, future-programmers and trouble shooters. Everytime and everywhere, they tried very hard and positively to solve the problems they were being faced in life, and eventually they got the goal they have wanted to attain. Various folktales contain the married women's lives in traditional society, did talk it up that they were the masters of their fate, wise problem-solvers, go-ahead persons and very strong women. In conclusion, we can make sure that the married women were leading their living subjectively.
