영화에 나타난 따돌림의 실태와 교정복지의 역할 연구

국문 초록

오늘날 우리 사회에는 다양한 대중매체가 있지만 영화만큼 대중들에게 높은 파급력을 보여주는 매체는 드물다. 실제로 몇 년 전에 개봉된 영화 「도가니」는 장애인 성범죄에 대한 처벌을 강화한 특례법이 개정될 정도의 파장을 일으켰다. 최근 개봉하여 사회적으로 많은 반향을 불러일으켰던 영화 「우아한 거짓말」은 학교폭력을 주제로 한 영화이다. 비록 이 영화가 실화를 바탕으로 하지는 않았지만, 실화 보다 더 실화 같은 내용으로 영화 속 학교폭력이 현실에 일어나지 않기를 희망하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 영화기호학적 분석 방법을 이용하여 사회 문제로 부각되고 있는 학교폭력 '따돌림'이 영화 『우아한 거짓말』에서 어떻게 나타나고 있는지를 살펴보고, 학교폭력 문제 해결을 위한 교정복지의 역할을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 현재 우리나라의 각 학교에서 추진하고 있는 학교폭력 예방 활동이 교정복지 대상에 포함될 수 있다는 결론이 도출되었다. 즉, 학교폭력의 가해자와 피해자를 대하는 태도와 예방을 위한 관련자들의 심층개입과정은 또 다른 교정복지의 장이 될 수 있다. 또한, 영화기호학적 관점에서 살펴보았을 때, 영화 『우아한 거짓말』에 나타난 따돌림은 외형적으로 쉽게 드러나지 않으나 피해자로 하여금 극단적인 선택을 할 수 밖에 없는 잔인한 학교폭력의 실체였다. 이를 통해 따돌림은 피해자에게 외적인 폭행보다 오히려 더 깊은 상처를 줄 수 있는 '잠재적 고위험군 학교폭력의 형태'라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 영화 속 '만지'의 행동처럼 잘못된 행동의 주체자를 끝까지 미워하고 벌을 주어 반성하도록 한 후 다시 그런 행동을 하지 못하도록 관심을 갖는 모습을 주목할 필요가 있다. 그런 관심들이 또 다른 범죄를 예방하는 지름길이라는 우리사회의 인식개선이 병행되어야 하며, 그런 사회가 바로 교정과 복지가 양립할 수 있는 양질의 지역사회일 것이다. 끝으로 본 연구는 영화 속의 학교폭력 실태를 기호학적 방법으로 분석하고자 하였으나 연구자의 주관적 해석이 포함되었음을 배제하기 어렵다. 또한 교정복지의 광의적 개념을 도입하여 현재 학교에서 추진하고 있는 학교폭력 예방 활동과 교정복지의 역할이라는 교차점을 찾는 과정에서 연구의 일반화 가능성에 한계가 있을 수 있다.

영문 초록

There are various mass media in today's society but few of them are more influential on people than movies. In fact, movie Silenced released a few years ago was so powerful that it even resulted in the revision of acts on special cases, intensifying the punishment of sex crimes against the disabled. Recently released Elegant Lies, which evoked hot responses throughout the society, is a movie on the theme of school violence. Although it is not based on a real story, we hope that school violence as in the movie may not happen in the real life. Thus, this study aimed to examine how school violence 'bullying,' which is emerging as a social problem, is described in movie Elegant Lies through film semiotic analysis, and to search for the role of correctional welfare in solving school violence. According to the conclusions drawn from the results of this study, school violence prevention activities promoted by individual schools in Korea may be included as the subjects of correctional welfare. That is, attitude toward the offenders and victims of school violence and involved people's in-depth intervention process for prevention can be another ground of correctional welfare. From the viewpoint of film semiotics, moreover, bullying in Elegant Lies was a cruel school violence that, though not easily noticeable, could compel the victim to make an extreme choice. That is, the movie showed that bullying is 'a form of school violence with high potential risk' that can inflict more fatal wounds on the victims than visible violence. In addition, we need to take interest in what is shown in movie All Mixed Up, hating and punishing one person who did wrong to the end until he repented and turned completely away from such a behavior. There should be the improved social consciousness that such an interest is a shortcut to the prevention of another crime. Such a society will be a high-quality community in which correction and welfare are compatible with each other. Lastly, this study attempted to analyze school violence in movies by a semiotic method but it cannot exclude the possibility of the researcher's subjective interpretation. Moreover, there may be a limitation in the generalization of the results in the process of introducing the broad concept of correctional welfare and finding a crossover point between the schools' current efforts to prevent school violence and the role of correctional welfare.
