국문 초록

'영성'을 철학적 관점에서 살펴보면 인간의 보편적인 내적 본성의 차원에서 이해할 수 있다. 의식이 고양된 상태에서 나타나는 본성의 조화는 인간의 고유한 생명현상이다. 분석적인 인간본성의 이해로부터 종합적인 인간 본성의 이해로의 전회는 영성에 대한 새로운 관심을 불러 일으켰다. 그러나 영성에 대한 관심은 전통적으로 이미 모든 종교와 철학 문화권에 내재되어 있었다. 철학적 사유 안에서 발전한 동아시아의 영성적 삶에 대한 관심은 실천적 삶의 중요한 요소를 이루고 있다. 본고는 동아시아 종교의 바탕을 이루고 있는 영성의 기원을 고대 철학적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 『역경』은 '적연부동'과 '감이수통'을 통하여 영성적 차원을 나타내고 있으며, 공자는 '자성'과 '구사론'을 통하여 마음의 본성을 가르치고 있다. 맹자는 공자의 가르침을 계승하여 본성을 다하는 마음이 그 근본인 '평단지기'를 길러 '호연지기'로 나아감에 있음을 밝혔다. 노자는 형이상학적 인식의 경지를 설명하는데서 '영지'의 의미를 밝혔고, 장자는 자아를 잃음으로서 완전한 자유에 듦을 영성적 삶으로 비유하였다. 동아시아 문화에서 영성적 삶은 도와 일치하여 완전한 인간을 이루는 조건임을 알 수 있다. 이러한 영성의 전통은 불교와 그리스도교를 수용하고 토착적으로 발전시키는데 있어서 매우 중요한 역할을 하였다. 따라서 동양영성의 기원을 살펴보는 작업은 문화적 차이를 넘어선 도덕적 생명현상을 이해하기 위해서 중요하다.

영문 초록

From the philosophical perspective, 'Spirituality', in general, helps to understand the intrinsic original nature of human. The harmony of nature reflected in the heightened state of consciousness is an unique phenomenon of human life. The transformation of understanding of human nature from analytic to comprehensive viewpoint aroused recently a renewed interest in spirituality. Traditionally, however, the interest in spirituality had been already inherent in different cultures, religions and philosophies. The interest in spiritual life developed in the form of philosophical thinking has been a very important element for fulfilling the practical elements of life in East Asia. This study, examines the philosophical point of view that forms the very basis of the East Asian religions and ancient origins of spirituality. I Ching shows the spiritual dimension through 'Contemplative motionless (寂然不動)' and 'Enlightenment through inspiration (感而遂通)'. Confucius teaches the nature of the mind through 'Introspection (自省)', Following the Confucius' teachings, Mencius cultivated the nature of the mind that can be raised to a 'Noble Spirit (浩然之氣)' through 'Clear air of early morning (平旦之氣)'. Lao Tzu describes 'Numinous awareness (靈知)' as a state of metaphysical awareness. Zhuang Tzu compared the complete freedom to 'Sit in Oblivion (坐忘)', as the self-effacement likened to spiritual life. Spiritual life in the East Asian culture corresponds with these conditions and it helps one to become a complete human being. The indigenous spiritual tradition has played a very important role in accommodating Buddhism and Christianity. Therefore, studying on the origins of East Asian spirituality it is important to understand the phenomenon of the moral life beyond the cultural differences.
