This study explored the types of scaffolding for teacher and child that can occur when engaging child to master geometry concepts and the possible influences of scaffolding strategies on child perceptions of geometry conceptions when they are appropriately applied in the classroom. This study was a qualitative analysis that was conducted in classroom settings through observations and recordings on child aged 5 in a three month project involving the geometry section of math concepts. The scaffolding types discovered among the child participants included demonstrating, presenting, suggesting, challenging and identifying contradictions in others' ideas, and explaining. On the part of the teachers, those were stimulating child interests, engaging child into subjects, providing models, supporting in an affective level, securing perceived goals, ensuring understandings, and offering descriptions, among others. Along with these, it was found that interactive scaffoldings between teacher and child served as an useful tool that allowed the teachers to identify the actual level of development of child and help them to reach the potential level of development. Besides, a variety of scaffolding tools or techniques were found to be helpful for the child developing their geometry concepts in the aspects of objective representation, explanatory cognition, conversions between different shapes, spacial visualization, and spacial inference. The implication is that scaffolded instruction can be an effective framework put up for child access to the meaning of geometry and a process by which teachers mediate an child’s attempts to explore learning independently in a more natural educational environment.
