Due to the increasing number of international conferences and a growing demand for interpreters, more and more universities in Korea choose to offer interpretation education to their students. In this sense, universities should be equipped with the capabilities to sufficiently assess the applicants’ potential and aptitude for the study ultimately leading to success in the field. This paper aims to examine the validity of aptitude tests developed by Chung (2011). By comparing results from this test (T₁) with those of an interpretation competence test (T₂), three questions will be answered: first, if there is a correlation between the results of T₁ and T₂, i.e., if T₁ is actually valid as an interpreting aptitude test; second, which of the sub-competencies from T₁ (multilingual competence, transfer competence, extralinguistic knowledge, etc.) shows the highest correlation to T₂; third, which of two environmental factors (text type and text preparation) produces greater difficulty for students. The experiment was carried out in three steps. Study participants (college students) took T₁ with six sub-competence domains and took part in an interpreting class for three months (ca. 12 hours). An interpretation competence test (T₂) simulating real interpreting situations was performed at the end of those three months. Test results were evaluated by four experienced interpreting educators. Aufgrund der steigengen Zahl der internationalen Konferenzen sowie der wachsenden Nachfrage nach kompetenten Dolmetschern entscheiden sich immer mehr Universitäten, entsprechende Bildungskurse anzubieten. Dabei ist für sie ein einfaches und dennoch wirksames Auswahlsverfahren entscheidend, um begabte mehrsprachige Kommunikatoren in ihrem Frühstadium zu erkennen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit geht es um die Überprüfung der Validität des Dolmetscheigungstests, der bei Chung (2011) entwickelt wurde. Das Ergebnis dieses Testes (T₁) wird nach einem dreimonatigen Dolmetschkurs mit dem des Dolmetschkompetenztestes (T2) verglichen. Dadurch werden vor allem die folgenden drei Fragen beantwortet. 1. Ist T₁ als Dolmetscheignungstest geeignet? 2. Welche von sechs Subkompetenzbereiche bei T₁ weist den höchsten Korrelationswert mit dem Ergebnis von T₂ auf? 3. Welcher von den beiden Dolmetschsituationsfaktoren (Texttypen sowie Textvorbereitung) bereitet größere Schwierigkeiten für die Studenten? Die Reliabilität des Dolmetscheignungstests sowie die Leistungen der Studenten werden von vier erfahrenden Dolmetschern/Dolmetschwissenschaftlern bewertet.
