An Analysis on Regional Differences in the Food Consumption Patterns of Chinese Urban Households

국문 초록

본 연구는 2004년부터 2009년까지 중국의 지역별 소비지출자료를 이용하여 중국 도시가계의 지역별 식품소비패턴을 분석한 것이다. 중국 도시가계의 식품에 대한 소비지출은 총 19개 품목으로 분류되어 있으나, 본 연구에서는 식품의 중요도와 상호연관성에 따라 ‘곡류 및 두류’, ‘육류’, ‘수산물’, ‘야채’, ‘과일’ 등의 5개 부문으로 분류하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 방법론은 다음의 두 가지로 요약된다. 첫째, 중국 31개 지역의 6년간 지역별 식품소비지출에 대한 패널자료를 이용하여 군집분석을 실시하였다. 적정한 군집의 수는 pseudo-F와 CCC의 변화를 복합적으로 고려하여 결정하였다. 둘째, 군집에 따른 부분별 소비패턴의 이질성을 파악하기 위하여 도출된 군집을 더미변수로 포함하는 희귀모형을 추론하였다. 이 모형을 패널자료의 지역효과와 시간효과에 의해 모형의 절편이 가변적이라는 가정의 오차요인모형으로 추론하였다. 본고의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 6년간 중국 31개 지역의 식품소비패턴은 5개의 군집으로 분류되었다. 둘째, 일인당 실질가처분소득은 모든 부문별 식품소비지출을 결정하는 주요한 요인이며, 이의 증가는 모든 부문에서 지출을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 일부 식품부문에서 군집에 따라 소득탄력성이 유의적 차이를 보이는 현상이 관찰되었다. 또한 일인당 실질가처분소득에 대한 부문별 식품의 실질소비지출의 변화율은 현저히 낮은 수준(부문에 따라0.89~4.12%)이어서 군집에 따른 부문별 식품소비가 대부분 소득비탄력적이었으나, 특정 군집에 속한 지역들의 일부 소비지출은 소득탄력적인 특성을 보였다. 셋째, 군집을 나타내는 더미변수들의 계수들이 유의적이라는 점은 군집에 따라 부문별 식품소비패턴이 차별적이라는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 이는 부문별 식품소비패턴을 결정하는 다수의 지역적 요인들이 존재한다는 것을 뜻한다. 본연구의 분석방법론과 결과는 중국의 지역별 식품소비패턴에 관한 연구에서 보다 정밀성을 높여줄 수 있으며, 중국관련 정책수립자와 식품무역업자 등에게 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study addresses the difference of the regional food consumption patterns in the Chinese urban households using the panel data 'per capita annual consumption expenditure of urban households by region(2004-209)'. The methodology of the paper is cluster analysis and regression model with constant slope coefficients and Intercept that varies over the regions and time by panel data, which combine time series and cross-sectional data. The results are as follows; It is stated in this paper that 31 regions of China through 6 years are divided into five clusters having different food consumption patterns respectively, following to the observation of variations in pseudo-F and CCC as the number of clusters grows. In addition, it is detected that there exists a nearly consistent tendency that food consumption pattern of each regions varies as time progresses. This present study analyzes on the differences of sectoral food consumption patterns by clusters using the linear regression models with constant slope coefficients and Intercept that varies over the regions and time with panel data. In addition, Lagrange multipliers of Breusch and Pagan on the models of 5 food sectors give us strong evidence for the varying-intercept regression models, and the values of Hausman statistic suggest that the error components model is more appropriate than the dummy variable model to analyze the regional consumption patterns of 5 food sectors in China. And, this paper shows that income elasticities of some clusters distinctly differ from the others in several food sectors. In conclusion, the research of this paper presents some logical reasons why it is very desirable that provinces in China are separated to some groups, so that the systematic grouping of food consumption patterns will improve the accuracy of the analysis in demand for food. Besides, these results of the study may suggest several points of interest for China-related food policy makers, planners and traders.
