국문 초록

이 글은 캐나다 온타리오 주 중등 교육과정 구조와 교과별 교육과정 문서에 대한 분석으로부터 우리나라 고등학교 교육에 ‘학생맞춤형’ 교육과정을 실현하기 위한 시사점을 도출하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 분석결과, 캐나다 온타리오 주 중등 교육과정은 다음과 같은 특징을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 중학교 교육과정, 고등학교 교육과정, 대학 전공별 교육과정 사이에 면밀한 연계가 이루어져 있으며 대학진학준비과정(혹은 전문대준비과정)과 취업준비과정이 하나로 통합되어 있다. 둘째, 하나의 기준에 의거하여 ‘수준별’로 위계화되어 있지 않고 다양한 기준에 의거하여 ‘진로유형별’로 설계되어 있으며, 진로유형별 차이가 무엇을 의미하는지 그 기준이 교과별로 명확하게 명시되어 있다. 셋째, 학점제로 운영되고 있다. 이러한 캐나다 온타리오 주 중등 교육과정의 특징은 우리나라 고등학교 교육과정 개혁에 다음과 같은 시사점을 주고 있다. 첫째, 우리나라 고등학교 교육과정 개혁은 중학교 교육과정과의 연계, 그리고 그 이후의 대학 전공별 교육과정과의 연계를 고려하여 이루어져야 한다. 둘째, 대학준비교육(혹은 전문대준비교육)과 취업준비교육을 통합적으로 바라보는 안목이 필요하다. 셋째, 고등학교 교육과정은 ‘진로유형별’로 설계될 필요가 있다. 넷째, 대학진학, 전문대진학, 취업을 위하여 각 교과는 학생들을 어떻게 차별적으로 준비시킬 것인가를 명시적으로 그 기준을 밝혀놓아야 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to derive meaningful implications for the realization of student-tailored high school curriculum in Korea from an analysis on the Ontario Secondary Curriculum in Canada. As for the result, the Ontario Secondary Curriculum has the following characteristics: 1) It is structured based on the robust articulation between middle school curriculum, high school curriculum and university curriculum. 2) It unites university preparation courses(or college preparation courses) and workplace preparation courses. 3) It is not hierarchically ordered but designed according to various types of pathway. 4) How different the content and method of teaching is according to pathway is accurately articulated in each subject. 5) It is implemented with credit and no grade system. Considering these characteristics of the Ontario Secondary Curriculum, for the realization of student-tailored high school curriculum in Korea, the following should be considered: 1) The reform of high school curriculum in Korea should be done based on a robust articulation between middle school curriculum, high school curriculum, and university curriculum. 2) University preparation courses(or college preparation courses) and workplace preparation courses are to be integrated in one curriculum. 3) The high school curriculum should be designed according to various types of pathway. 4) The specialists of each subject should accurately articulate what and how they teach students who will not major in their own subjec t.
