스라파의 ‘증명’ 방식에 관한 일고

국문 초록

본 논문은 표준상품과 관련하여 스라파가 『상품에 의한 상품생산』에서 제시한 여러 명제들을 증명하는 방식을 고찰한다. 특히 표준상품의 존재와 일관성, 0과 최대이윤율 사이의 어떤 이윤율에 대해서도 기초재 가격이 모두 양수라는 명제, 그리고 그런 양의 가격에 상응하는 최대이윤율이 최소의 최대이윤율이라는 명제를 증명하는 데 있어 스라파가 (고전적 논리와는 구분되는) 직관주의 논리에 입각한 ‘구성적 증명 방식’을 어느 정도까지 사용하고 있는지를 확인할 것이다. 수학자가 아닌 경제학자로서, 스라파는 명제를 ‘증명’할 때 어떤 특정한 수학 철학적 입장에서 주장하는 논증 방 식을 따르기보다는, 명제의 내용을 ‘비수학적 독자들’에게 전달하는 데 적절하다고 판단되는 여러 논증 방식들을 ‘실용적’으로 혼합하여 사용한 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

The paper investigates the way of argumentation in which Sraffa proves some propositions related to standard commodity in the Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities. In particular, we wish to identify to what extent Sraffa uses the ‘constructive way of proof’ based on intuitionist logic, in contrast to the classical way of proof, when he proves the existence and the uniqueness of a standard commodity, the proposition that the prices of basic commodities are all positive for any rate of profits between 0 and the maximum rate, and the proposition that the maximum rate of profits which corresponds to those positive prices are the lowest maximum rate. Not a mathematician but an economist, Sraffa uses, in a pragmatic manner, various ways of proof which he considers appropriate for conveying the contents of the propositions, in particular, to‘nonmathematical readers’, rather than following rigidly a way of proof based on a particular philosophy of mathematics.
