국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 최근에 등장한 새경제학방법론의 배경과 핵심을 정리하고 그 주요 흐름을 소개하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 우선 전통적 경제학방법론에 철학적 기초를 제공하던 전통적 과학철학의 쇠락에 기여한 토마스 쿤의 작업을 논의한다. 쿤의 연구로부터 큰 영향을 받은 과학지식 사회학은 새 경제학방법의 형성에 중요한 역할을 했으므로 그에 대한 설명이 이어지며, 과학지식 사회학에 대한 대응으로서 등장한 과학지식 경제학에 대한 소개와 예시가 이루어진다. 뒤이어, 가장 최근 새경제학방법론에서 중요한 주제로 떠오른 수행성에 대한 설명 그리고 이 새로운 개념을 둘러싼 논쟁들 중 하나에 대한 소개를 한다. 마지막으론 새경제학방법론의 대두가 경제학과 관련된 메타이론적 분석에 갖는 함의를 간략히 논의한다.

영문 초록

The present paper aims to provide a summary of the background of (the rise of) new economic methodology and also to offer a portrayal of its defining features. To this end, the paper starts with a discussion of Thomas Kuhn's work, the one diametrically opposed to traditional philosophy of science which had provided traditional methodology of economics with a philosophical foundation. Sociology of scientific knowledge, of which the establishment was very much indebted to Kuhn's work, played such a significant role in shaping new economic methodology that an account of it is provided. An explanation of economics of scientific knowledge follows which has emerged in a reaction to sociology of scientific knowledge. The concept of performativity, which has recently garnered widespread attention among new economic methodologists, and a controversy centering around it are to be discussed next. And a discussion of the implication of the rise of new economic methodology for the metatheoretical investigation of economics and its sister disciplines concludes the paper.
