The North Korean Literature is the Art-Literature of socialism and realism grounded on the Marxism and the Leninism which are the political ideologies in Communist countries. In the North, it is considered true literature when the reality of life is reflected in the literature rather than the con-temporary lives being the true literature. It is considered true when there is the guiding principle to lead the society. Therefore the policy should accord with that of the party and the message from Kim, Il-Sung. The readers treat literature and reality equally. The phonomenon of literary characters and actual figures being equally treated is technically applied in the formation of characters. These regional characteristics of the North-Korean literature have been reinforced since 1948. Before that period when the South and the North had the literature in common, there seemed to have been the phenomenon guided by the ideology. But it didn't insist the phenomenon only. In the wake of the Korean-War(6.25) the peninsula was divided into the South and the North. In spite of the fact that they use the same language, there are broader differences in mentality revealed in literature than in phenomenon. The elements of various conflicts between human beings are dealt in the plot of the South Literature. The North literature is directly related to the problems of the society, which are not of the individual, but of the group which represents the individual. In the modern works and the history of Chosun Literature (조선고전문학) by the Science Encyclopedia Publication of the North(북한: 과학 백과 사전 출판부)the following characteristics of female characters are examined: 1, The image of mothers waiting for their brave sons who were dispatched to fight Japan and to carry out the revolutionary struggle for the post war restoration period: Mothers were owners of the fighting spirit and revolutionary ideology as their sons. In the modern works, mothers were depicted as women who were suffering from separation of the land. They were determined to remain alive to see their sons returning home after the achievement of the Mother-Land Unification(조국의 통일) and the liberation of the South from the American-Imperialism(미 제국주의). Kang Ban-suk(강반석), mother of Kim Il-sung(김일성), was established as the model of the typical mother figure. 2. The image of women assisting men who owned solid communism. At first, women were weak and helpless because their in-law family members were killed by enemies. They felt insecure. Then with the help from men who possessed solid communism women were able to fight and have the revolutionary philosophy in order to be helpful to the society. 3. The image of working women engaged in various women professions could cope with any job. But this didn't mean their abilities were evaluated without gender encounter. Women were confined to playing the role of helping men achieve their work in the society. Women were willing to accept this kind of the role. 4. Image of women sending their loving men at nations call. In the 1980's the individual works which include the ordinary person's affairs replaced the period of the group literature (집체문학). The subject of 'love' was dealt among young people. However there was no occurrence referring to conflicts of triangle love relations which could be caused by the difference in personality. Being entitled to love was regarded as their duty to carry out in society. When the country was in need of its men(국가의 부름) the lovers were to think that their farewell was due without any doubts. Here men were described as the industrial task forces who were needed in the society and women as characters who were supposed to send men away. 5. Image of House wives who carried out the most complex jobs. They were expected to be perfectionists wherever they worked and whatever they did. In accordance with social progress house wives of spirit and labor force were requi
