국문 초록

우리는 질적연구 방법을 통하여 우리나라 초등학교 초임교사가 발령 후 어떠한 경험 속에서 무엇을 생각하며 어떻게 그들의 전문성을 신장시키는지를 이해하고자 하였다. 초임교사들이 어떻게 교직문화에 적응하고 수업과 업무의 기술을 학습함으로써 그들의 전문성 발달이 어떻게 이루어지는지를 그려나가고자 하였다. 우리는 자서전적기술과 심층면담을 통해 초임교사들이 어떻게 교직문화에 적응하고 수업과 업무의 기술을 익혀나가는지를 그리고자 하였다. 이를 통해 초임교사들이 교직에 적응하기 위해서 의식.무의식적으로 생존전략을 발휘한다는 사실을 알게 되었다. 우리는 이 연구가 교사의 실제적 삶과 그들의 실제적 지식(Personal practical knowledge)가 심층적으로 연구되지 않은 우리나라에서 교사 전문성과 교사교육 분야에 실제적인 기여를 할 것으로 평가한다.

영문 초록

This study is to describe and understand professional development and dilemmas of Korean first year elementary teachers. For this purpose, qualitative research such as in-depth interviewing and participant observation was employed. Also, teachers' activities during first year employment and documents which they have developed were collected and analyzed. As a result, first year elementary teachers' strategies for survival emerged as analytic theme. On the basis of Bogdan and Biklen's scheme on developing codes, codes for strategies were identified and developed into categories. Finally, seven strategies to reflect their cultural adaptation and survival were analyzed and transformed into thematic issue of this study. This study has multiple significances for teacher development and socialization of first year elementary teachers in Korea. First, the results have shown that educators and administrators should be aware of process and features of first year elementary teachers' professional development. They will be used as further source to study first year teachers' professional and personal expertise. Second, understanding teachers' potential problems caused during the period of cultural adaptation and cultural shock contributes to developing a new program for teachers' mal-adjustment for teaching job and their self-evaluation.
