영문 초록

Familism has been identified as the core of Korean culture, From the beginning to the middle of modernization in Korea, discussion focused on familism as a pathological social phenomenon. However, others asserted that familism was functional because loyalty to family was channeled into loyalty to employers, which fostered high economic growth. To solve this contradictory assessment of familism, the concept of familism was explored in-depth and familism, family egoism, and Quasi-familism were identified as three independent phenomena. In addition, familism was broken down into emotional familism and instrumental familism, which involve significantly different activities and have different influences on society. However, because they have a common foundation(a conviction system related to family) a complex cause-and-effect relationship may exist between these two types of familism. The identification of such a relationship should be the subject of future studies.
