영문 초록

The present study aims to investigate how to improve the curriculum for Elementary English Education as the second major at a national university of education. First, the study compared the curriculum with those of other four national universities of education, and discussed the differences. Then it administered a questionnaire asking what students of the university and teachers of local elementary schools think in regard with the differences, and compiled the results. The results revealed the subjects hoped: 1) students specializing in Elementary English Education as the second major would take more credits in the second major courses, 2) elective courses would be offered, 3) a course on culture education would be offered as an elective, and 4) evaluation would be dealt with not as a separate course but as a part of a course. The results also suggested further discussion be made on: 1) how to increase credits for the second major within the limit of the total sum of 145 credits, 2) how to adjust the ratio of required and elective courses, 3) whether or not to open language skill teaching courses, 4) whether or not to open an action research course, and 5) what to set as the objectives and how many credits and hours to assign for conversation classes.
