외국인 유학생의 학업적응에 대한 국내 연구동향 분석(2011∼2020)

국문 초록

본 연구는 고등교육의 국제화를 배경으로 최근 급증하는 외국인 유학생의 학업적응 문제에 주목하여, 최근 10년간 국내 학술지에 발간된 외국인 유학생의 학업적응 관련 연구동향을 분석하여 향후 연구의 방향성을 도출하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2011년부터 2020년까지 국내 학술지에 발간된 외국인 유학생의 학업적응 관련 총 67편의 연구를 연구자 전공, 학회지, 연구주제 및 방법을 기준으로 분석하였으며 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 최근 10년간 외국인 유학생의 학업적응 관련 연구는 꾸준히 증가하는 추세이다. 둘째, 1편을 제외한 모든 연구가 KCI 등재지에 게재되었다. 셋째, 최근 10년간 수행한 외국인 유학생의 학업적응 관련 연구 중 절반 이상의 논문은 언어·문화 전공자들에 의해 수행되었고, 교육학 전공자에 의해 수행된 연구는 그 뒤를 이었다. 넷째, 대부분 연구의 대상자는 학부생이고, 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 다수의 연구가 수행되었다. 다섯째, 연구주제를 준거로 분석한 결과 관련성연구가 가장 많이 수행되었고, 연구주제에 따른 연구방법 분포를 살펴보면 대부분 연구가 양적 연구방법을 이용하여 변인 간 관계성을 연구하였다. 이상의 연구결과를 바탕으로 학업적응 문제를 다양한 관점으로 체계적으로 검토할 필요성, 대상자를 세분화하여 연구할 필요성, 교내 구성원과의 상호작용적 관점에서 외국인 유학생의 학업적응을 살펴볼 필요성 및 연구방법을 정교화하여 실효성 있는 지원방안을 도출할 필요성을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study is conducted in the context of the increasing number of inbound foreign students involved in Korean higher education as related to the South Korean government’s higher education policy to improve internationalization of Korean universities. Against this backdrop, the purpose of the study is to analyze the domestic research trends of academic adaptation of international students from 2011 to 2020 and to suggest research agendas for future research. For this purpose, 67 academic articles related to the academic adaption of international students published from 2011 to 2020 were collected, and systematically reviewed and analyzed based on the analytical criteria such as affiliation of researchers, journal’s specific rank, research topics, and methods. The main research findings are as follows. First, the number of research articles on academic adaptation of international students is steadily growing since 2011. Second, except in one study, all studies were published in journals registered in the Korea Citation Index journals. Third, in terms of the affiliation of researchers, the majority of researchers are belonged to language and culture college majors, and followed by education majors. Fourth, the most frequently chosen targeted research participants are undergraduates and the number of inbound Chinese students in Korean higher education is high compare to other nationalities. Fifth, regarding the research topic, the majority of studies are used quantitative methods especially correlation analysis to examine the relationships between interested variables. Against these findings, the study suggests several future research agendas such as the necessity of a systematic review on academic adaptation of international students from various perspectives and research methods and the needs for specifying personal background of international students in terms of nationalities, educational levels, and social relationships.
