국문 초록

본 연구는 장소에 대한 인간의 경험적 성찰과 주관적 판단을 강조하는 인본주의 지리학의 핵심개념인 장소애착(place attachment)이 지역도시 거주자의 정신적 웰빙(mental well-being) 에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 특히 본 연구는 양적 방법론에 기초하여 전통적으로 폐쇄성이 강한 지역 중의 하나로 인식되고 있는 강원동해안에 위치한 3개의 지역도시(강릉시, 동해시, 삼척시)를 대상으로 지역도시 거주자의 장소애착이 삶의 만족이나 삶의 행복을의미하는 정신적 웰빙에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하는데 초점을 맞추고 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 장소애착과 정신적 웰빙에 관한 이론적 모형을 정립하고, 장소애착의 세 가지변인(장소정체성, 장소의존성, 사회적 유대감)이 정신적 웰빙에 정(+)의 영향을 미칠 것이라는가설을 설정하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과, 장소애착의 세 가지 변인(장소정체성, 장소의존성, 사회적 유대감)이 정신적 웰빙에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 본 연구의 결과는 현재 지역도시가 처해있는 인구감소, 도시소멸 등과 같은 위기상황에서 장소애착기반의 발전전략이 지역도시 거주자의 정신적 웰빙을 고양시키는데 핵심열쇠가 될 수 있다는것을 시사해준다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the effect of place attachment, a core concept of humanistic geography that emphasizes human empirical reflection and subjective judgment on places, on mental well-being of local city residents. This study is based on a quantitative methodology and is focusing on three local cities(Gangneung-si, Donghae-si, and Samcheok-si) located on the east coast of Gangwon-do, which is traditionally recognized as one of the regions with strong closedness. In particular, this study is focused on empirically analyzing the effect of place attachment to one's residence area on mental well-being which means life satisfaction or life happiness. To this end, this study hypothesized that the three variables(place identity, place dependence, social bond) constituting place attachment would have a positive effect on mental well-being of local city residents. The results of this study show that the proposed theoretical model and hypothesis fits robustly. This findings imply that a development strategy based on place attachment can be a key to enhancing the mental well-being of local city residents in crisis situations such as population decline and urban extinction that local cities are facing today
