국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 유아가 진자놀이에 참여하는 과정에서 어떠한 과학적 탐구 경험을 하며 그 의미는 무엇인지 탐색하는 것이다. 2020년 9월부터 12월까지 총 12주간 연구자 학급의 교실에 진자를 설치하고 유아들에게 자유롭게 놀이하도록 한 뒤, 연구자가 진자놀이 관찰과 녹화 및 사진 촬영, 유아면담, 연구일지 등 다면적 방법으로 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 유아는 진자놀이에 참여하면서 선행경험과 연관된 탐색하기, 반복적 탐색 즐기기, 문제 상황에서 해결방안 찾아가기, 다른 생각과 마주하며 확장하기, 행위 과정 중 과학적 지식 구성하기 등의 과학적 탐구경험을 하였다. 이와 같은 경험을 토대로 볼 때, 유아의 과학적 탐구는 흥미에 따라 지속성이 달라지며, 몰입을 위해 기다림이 필요하고, 성취와 갈등을 이어가며, 정답이 아닌 나의 답을 찾아가는 것으로서의 의미를 가진다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 유아교육 현장에서 유아가 진자놀이를 통하여 스스로 과학적 탐구를 경험하고 지식을 구성해 나아갈 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore what scientific inquiry experiences children had in the process of participating in pendulum play based on constructivism and its meaning. After the installation of pendulums in a researcher’s class, children were allowed to play freely with them, and multifaceted data in the form of pendulum observation, recording and photography, interviews, and research journals were collected over the course of 12 weeks from September to December 2020. The results of the study showed that children participating in pendulum play experienced scientific exploration such as exploring based on prior experiences, enjoying repeated exploration, finding solutions in problematic situations, expanding thoughts based on different perspectives, and constructing scientific knowledge through their actions. Overall, it can be seen that the scientific exploration of children varies depending on their interest. To pique that interest and encourage exploration, it requires waiting for immersion and continuing achievement and conflict, as well as understanding the importance of the meaning of the process of finding the answer, not necessarily just the answer itself. These results suggest that in the early childhood education field, children can experience scientific inquiries on their own and construct knowledge through pendulum play.
