Understanding of a teacher’s professional identity through analyzing autobiographical writing and teaching practice

국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 교사의 전문적 정체성을, 그가 가진 교육과정 관점을 토대로 심층적으로 이해해 보고자 하는 것이다. 전문적 정체성에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 위해 Pinar가 주장하는 자서전적 저널 쓰기와 인터뷰를 수행하였고, 이 과정에서 밝혀진 교육과정 관점이 실제 수업 행위에서는 어떻게 드러나는가에 대해 수업 실천을 녹화하고 분석하였다. 과거, 현재, 미래에 대한 자서전적 저널과 인터뷰의 내용 분석 결과, 연구 참여자는 학습자 중심적인 교육과정 관점을 주로 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 관점은 수업 행위 분석에서 보다 강화(명료화, 관련되는 새로운 관점의 발견) 되거나, 약화(관점과 일치하지 않은 행위의 발견)되기도 하였다. 교사는 이러한 상황을 자신을 이해하는 중요 성찰 자료로, 즉 자신에 대한 이해의 지평을 넓히는 자료로 활용하였다. 이 연구는 연구 참여자의 전문가로서의 자기이해, 자기발견에 초점을 두어 진행하였으며, 이러한 자서전 적 방법과 연계된 수업 행위 분석 결과를 바탕으로 교육과정 관점에 토대를 둔, 실천적 지식을 가진 전문가로서의 교사를 양성하는 방안이 될 수 있음을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore a teacher’s professional identity, which is expressed through a curriculum perspective. Researchers analysed a teacher’s autobiographical journals and interviews to understand her/his identity and re-interpreted this identity based on an analysis of her/his actual teaching behaviour. By analysing her autobiographical journal and her interview to explore the past, present, and future, the teacher understood in depth that she was following a learner-centered perspective. By analysing her teaching practice, she could clarify her viewpoint better, develop a new perspective, and experience a reconstructing of herself while realizing, with a sense of embarrassment, that her behaviour in classroom practice was different from her own perspective. These results suggest the need for a teacher education program using the autobiographical method to reinterpret one’s classroom behaviour to become aware of one’s professional identity more clearly and deeply.
