국문 초록

과거부터 현재에 이르기까지 숲은 인간의 생활에서 배제할 수 없는 중요한 생태무대의 역할을 수행해 왔다. 그 결과 현재는 숲을 단순한 자연물이 아니라 관광자원으로 인식하고 적극적으로 활용하고자하는 노력이 다각도로 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 스토리텔링 원천자료로서 설화의 가능성에 주목하여 숲 설화를 통해 과거부터 전승되어 온 숲 인식을 파악하고 이 인식이 스토리텔링 과정에서 어떤 방식으로 도움이 되는지 확인하고자 한다. 순천지역의 설화는 다양하지만 그 중에서도 숲에 대한 인식을 드러내는 광포유형 설화들을 대상으로 분석을 진행했다. 설화를 통해 확인한 숲 인식은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 숲은 사람들을 돕는 이로운 존재이다. 설화 속에서 숲은 개인이나 마을 집단을 보호함으로써 이 이야기들을 통해 숲이 사람을 돕는다는 인식을 확인할 수 있다. 둘째, 숲은 사람을 벌하기도 하는 두려운 존재이다. 때때로 자연의 이치를 거스르거나 숲을 함부로 대하는 존재들에게 징벌을 내리는 설화를 통해 이 같은 인식을 확인할 수 있다. 셋째, 숲은 눈에 보이지 않는 힘을 가진 존재이다. 숲이 사람을 돕거나 혹은 벌하는 과정에서 사람이 보거나 느낄 수 없는 힘을 가진 존재이며 이러한 미지의 힘은 도깨비로 형상화되는 경우가 있다. 이를 통해 숲의 양가성을 이해하고 숲의 힘을 어떻게 인지하고 있는지 확인할 수 있으며 그것이 어떻게 이야기를 통해 표현되었는지 알 수 있다. 스토리텔링 콘텐츠가 개발되는 과정에서는 설화 속에서 도출해 낸 핵심 인식이 반드시 포함될 필요가 있다. 스토리텔링 방향은 원전설화를 활용하거나, 새로운 이야기를 창작하는 등 다양할 수 있으나 설화에서 도출한 숲 인식이 포함되어야 콘텐츠로서 자생력을 갖출 가능성이 높아질 것이다. 이 외에도 스토리텔링 콘텐츠가 활용될 지역민들에게 받아들여질 수 있는 방향으로 진행되어야 실제 설화처럼 생명력을 가지고 전승될 가능성이 높아질 것이다.

영문 초록

Throughout history, even until the present times, forests have been important ecological stages that cannot be excluded from the lives of humans. As a result, forests nowadays are not simply natural objects, but are perceived as tourist attractions. Thus, efforts to actively utilize them are being made from various angles. This study focuses on the possibilities of fables as a storytelling source material, looks into the perceptions towards forests that have been passed down from the past through forest fables, and attempts to verify how these perceptions provide aid in the storytelling processes. While there are various forms of fables regarding the Suncheon area, analysis was conducted on elemental fables that reveal perceptions on forests, which were verified through fables. First, forests are beneficial entities that help people. The forests in fables protect individuals or village groups, and through these stories, the perception that forests aid people is confirmed. Second, forests are terrifying entities that also punish people. Such perception can be confirmed through fables wherein punishment is imposed on people who go against the order of nature or treat the forest with disrespect. Third, forests are beings that have invisible power. This is confirmed in stories wherein they either help or punish people using a mysterious power, which is sometimes embodied by goblins. Through this, the ambivalence of forests can be understood, and verifications can be made as to how the power of forests is recognized and expressed through stories. The core perceptions that were deduced from fables must be included in the development processes of storytelling content. Storytelling direction can be diverse, utilizing original fables or creating new stories, but the perceptions on forests, as deduced from fables, must be included for them to possibly possess autonomy. In addition, storytelling content must be oriented towards directions that can be accepted by local residents who will be able to utilize them to have vital power, similar to those of actual fables, and for them to have a high possibility of being passed on to future generations.on.
