우리 전통 과학 전시물의 TSK(traditional science knowledge) 특성 분석: 천문·시계·기상 분야를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 전통 천문·시계·기상 분야 전시물이 포함하고 있는 우리 TSK의 구성과 내용을 파악하고, 그것의 교육적 활용 가능성을 제안하는 것이다. 우리는 TSK 전시를 위한 별도의 공간과 과학적 해석을 갖춘 전통 과학 전시관 8개를 선정하고, 각 현장의 전시물을 수집해 분석했다. 전시물 수는 천문, 시계, 과학사, 기상의 순으로 많으며, 과학 문화재를 중심으로패널을 활용해 설명하는 형태가 가장 많았다. 총 61개 TSK 소재 중 앙부일구는 유일하게 8개 전시관에 모두 전시되어 있고, 많은 TSK 소재가 일부 전시관에만 볼 수 있어, 소재의 다양성에도 불구하고 보편성을 가진 TSK 소재가 적었다. TSK의 시대 및주체는 조선 전기 세종시대의 몇몇 과학 기술자들과 후기의 대표 실학자들의 과학 업적에 집중되어 있다. 이 분야 전시물에서표현한 TSK 특성은 개방성과 독창성이 많고, 개방성과 독창성이 함께 드러나기도 했다. 각 전시관마다 과학 지식, 과학 활동과과정, 기기의 작동, 과학사적 배경, 과학사 스토리텔링 등 새로운 TSK 내용과 전시 방법을 개발한 시도들이 있었다. TSK에 대한 올바른 이해와 그것의 교육적 활용을 위해, 현장 과학 탐구와 상호작용 체험이 가능한 전시 환경 조성과 긴 한국 과학사의흐름을 균형 있게 드러내는 TSK 소재의 활용, 과학 지식과 과학사적 맥락에 초점을 맞춘 TSK 해설이 필요함을 제안한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the composition and contents of the Korean TSK that include traditional astronomical, clock and weather exhibits, and to suggest its educational availability. Eight traditional science exhibition halls with separate TSK exhibition space and scientific interpretation were selected, and the exhibits from each exhibition hall were collected to be analyzed. The number of exhibits was largest in the order of astronomy, clock, science history, and weather, and most of the explanations were in the form of using panels focused on scientific cultural properties. Among the total of 61 TSK materials, the Angbuilgu was the only one exhibited in all eight exhibition halls, and most TSK materials could only be seen only in some exhibition halls This indicated that there were few TSK materials with universality despite their diversity. Moreover, the period/era and subject of TSK were concentrated on the scientific achievement of some representative scientists and engineers in the Sejong period and Shilhak scholars in the late Chosun Dynasty. The main characteristics of TSK expressed in these exhibits were mostly openness and originality, and some exhibits conveyed both. In each exhibition hall, there were attempts to develop new TSK contents and exhibition methods such as scientific knowledge, scientific activities and processes, operation of devices, background of HOS (history of science), and the storytelling of science history. The findings indicated that in order to achieve proper understanding of Korean TSK and its educational utilization, it is important for the exhibition to allow scientific investigation activities and interaction with the exhibits. Also, it is necessary for TSK to include materials that reveal TSK s long history in a balanced way and focus on scientific knowledge and HOS context explanations.
