동화 들려주기를 통한 수학활동이 유아의 수학적 개념발달에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

동화 들려주기를 통한 수학활동이 유아의 수학적 개념 발달에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해, 전라북도 군산시에 소재한 한 초등학교 병설유치원의 만 5세 이상 취학 전 유아 32명을 대상으로 각 16명씩 실험집단과 비교집단에 배정하였다. 4주 동안 자유선택활동시간 전에 실험집단과 비교집단의 모든 유아에게 분류, 서열, 수 보존-서수, 공간 및 측정 등의 수학적 개념에 관련한 8권의 동화책을 선정하여 들려주었다. 그리고 자유선택 활동시간에 실험집단은 수학 동화와 관련된 16가지의 수학활동을 전개하였고, 비교집단은 수학 동화와 관련 없는 일상적인 수 개념 교구 자료를 가지고 활동을 하였다. Piaget의 이론에 기초하여 Barron(1979)이 제시한 수학개념검사를 사용하여 아동의 수학적 개념의 여러 측면들에 대한 사전 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 각 수 개념 영역의 사전검사점수를 공변인으로 하고 사후검사점수에서의 차이에 대해 변량분석을 실시한 결과, 모든 영역에서 실험집단이 통제집단보다 유의하게 높은 점수를 얻은 것으로 확인되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects on young children s mathematical concepts through fairy-tale-telling in mathematic activities. 32 children of 5 to 6 years old were chosen from a kindergarten of an elementary school located in Kun-San city, and then divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. During 4 weeks the experimental group children were allowed to perform 16 activities using 8 books of fairy tale while control group children studied on regular bases using the same 8 books including the problems of various mathematical concepts. A mathematical concept test was used as to test the effects of fairy-tale- telling program on the children s mathematic concepts: categorizing, ordering, number preservation-ordinal number, space, measuring Covariance analyses of all the post-test subscale scores of mathematical concepts showed statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the children s categorizing, ordering, number preservation-ordinal number, space, measuring abilities. Therefore, fairy-tale-telling in mathematic activities had a positive effect on the development of young children s mathematical concepts.
