플라톤『국가』에 함축된 평생교육 사상 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 플라톤의『국가』에 나타는 철학 사상을 토대로 평생교육적 함의를 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 플라톤『국가』에 나타난 교육의 지향점이 어떻게 평생교육의 지향점과 일치하는지를 탐색하고 유네스코의 들로르 보고서가 제시한 학습의 4가지 원리가 플라톤의『국가』에서 제시한 4가지 덕과 어떻게 연관성을 가졌는지 살펴봄으로 오늘날 평생교육 개념에 새로운 시사점을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 그 결과 플라톤의 파이데이아는 모든 인간에게 교육이 필요하며 전 생애에 걸친 학습을 강조함으로 오늘날 평생교육의 지향점과 같다고 할 수 있다. 또한 유네스코 보고서에서 제시한 평생교육의 목적과 학습의 4가지 원리를 플라톤의『국가』의 4가지 덕으로 재해석함으로 다음과 같은 시사점을 도출하였다. 첫째, 플라톤의 교육은 개인의 훌륭한 영혼을 위한 명확한 방향성을 제시해주는 것으로 평생교육의 개념의 확장을 요구한다. 둘째, 플라톤의 평생교육은 인간의 본질을 사유하는 교육으로 평생교육이 직업교육보다는 인간의 삶의 문제까지 확대되는 계기를 줄 수 있다. 셋째, 플라톤은 개인과 공동체, 그리고 자아실현과 직업, 제도권과 일상에서의 교육을 제안하며 통합과 융합의 교육을 추구하고 있어 오늘날 평생교육계에 매우 의미가 있다. 마지막으로 플라톤의 철학사상은 공동체와 개인을 동일하게 봄으로 국가와 개인의 문제를 한 번에 해결하고자 구성된 독창적인 교육으로 오늘날 평생교육의 사회정의를 논함에 중요한 시사점을 준다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore lifelong educational implications based on philosophical thought in Plato s 󰡔Politeia󰡕. In order to do this, we first explore how the orientation of education in Plato s 󰡔Politeia󰡕coincides with the orientation of lifelong education, and how the four pillars of education presented by the UNESCO are linked to the four areté. And to present new implications for the concept of lifelong education today. As a result, Plato s Paideia requires education for all human beings and emphasizes life-long learning, which is the same as today s lifelong education. In addition, by reinterpreting the four principles and purposes of lifelong education presented in the UNESCO by four areté of Plato, the following implications were derived. First, Plato s education suggests a clear direction for an individual s good soul, and requires an extension of the concept of lifelong education. Second, Plato s lifelong education can give an opportunity to extend life education to the problem of human life rather than vocational education. Third, Plato is very meaningful to the lifelong education world today as he is pursuing a education of integration and convergence, suggesting personal and community, self-realization, occupation, institutional and daily education. Finally, Plato s philosophical thought is an original education designed to solve the problems of the national and the individual at once, with the community and the individual alike, giving important implications for discussing the social justice of lifelong education today.
