경쟁환경이 자아존중감, 교우관계, 학교불만족, 비행에 미치는 영향 ― 2006, 2009 다집단 분석 ―

국문 초록

본 연구는 고등학생을 대상으로 경쟁환경이 자아존중감, 교우관계, 학교불만족, 비행에 미 치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 한국교육개발원의 ??학교 교육 실태 및 수준 분석?? 자료를 이용 하여 분석하였다. 경쟁환경과 각 변인들 간의 구조관계를 살펴보고, 이전 두 정부의 상이한 교육정책에 따른 교육에서의 경쟁환경과 변인들 관계에서도 차이가 있는지 탐색해보고자 하 였다. 경쟁환경과 각 변인들 간의 관계를 살펴보면, 경쟁환경이 직접적으로 청소년 지위비행에 영향을 미치고 있지 않았다. 그러나 경쟁환경은 청소년의 자아존중감을 향상시키고, 교우적 응을 높여 원만한 교우관계를 형성하는 데 조력하고 있는 것을 발견하였다. 높은 자아존중 감과 원만한 교우관계는 학교불만족을 감소시킬 뿐만 아니라, 지위비행과 범죄행위를 줄이 는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 또한 지위비행 참여가 많을수록 범죄행위도 증가하 는 양상을 보였다. 2006년 고등학생과 2009년 고등학생 집단 간 차이를 보면, 경쟁환경이 이전에 비해 증가하는 양상이 아닌, 오히려 동기부여의 경우 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. 이 러한 결과는 몇 번의 정권교체만 있었을 뿐 기본적인 교육정책의 기조는 변한 것이 없다는 선행연구 결과를 일부 지지하는 것이었다. 그러나 경쟁환경과 각 변인들 간의 경로의 차이 를 살펴본 결과, 2006년 집단에서 경쟁환경은 긍정적 효과와 부정적 효과가 공존하고 있었 다면, 2009년 집단에서는 부정적 효과가 점차 사라졌다. 예컨대 경쟁환경이 2009년에는 학 교불만족을 감소시키는 반면, 2006년 집단에서는 그러한 관계가 발견되지 않았다. 게다가 학 교불만족이 2006년 집단이 2009년에 비해 다소 높았는데, 이를 뒷받침할 근거로 월소득, 교 육비 부담 정도 등을 비추어 볼 때, 2009년 집단의 보다 높은 가정경제적 배경이 학교부적 응을 완화해 학교에 대한 불만족을 감소시킬 가능성을 제안할 수 있다. 기존의 선행연구가 과도한 경쟁이 유발하는 교육문제에 철학적, 사회경제학적 논의를 위 주로 하였다면, 본 연구는 경쟁환경이 가지는 부정적, 긍정적 영향에 대해 보다 실증적으로 살펴본 데에 의의가 있겠다. 그러나 여전히 제기되는 가정배경 요인, 성별, 성취 요인 등 다 양한 요인을 통제하지 못하였다는 점에서 본 연구의 한계점이 있으며 보다 심층적인 추후 연구를 제언하는 바이다.

영문 초록

This study is designed to explore the influence of a competitive environment on self-esteem, peer relations, school dissatisfaction, and delinquency for high school students, using the data from KEDI, ?Analysis on the Actual Status and Qualities of School Education in Korea?. This study explores the relation of a competitive environment to variables. Moreover, the study investigates the difference between high school students in 2006 and 2009, by examining the difference in the respective educational policies of the previous two Governments. The structural equation modeling analysis and cross-group analysis are used, and the results are as follows. First, a competitive environment does not influence status delinquency, but helps the development of self-esteem and encourages the formation of close peer relationships. In addition, the high level of self-esteem and peer relations have a positive effect on reducing school dissatisfaction, status delinquency and criminal acts of high school students. Status delinquency has a positive correlation with criminal acts. Second, with regard to the difference between 2006 and 2009 groups, there is no significant change of a competitive environment, but rather the motivation in 2006 is more powerful than the one in 2009. This result supports the opinion that there are only several changes of government with no change to the basis of educational policy. More details about it emerge. Both the negative and positive effects of a competitive environment coexist in 2006, but the negative effect has decreased in 2009. Although a competitive environment reduces school dissatisfaction in 2009, a non-significant relation between them is discovered in 2006. In addition, school dissatisfaction is higher in 2006 than in 2009. As a reason for this finding, this study discusses the possibility that the high level of socio-economic status would relieve school dissatisfaction.
