아동의 숲교육철학 탐색 : 과학적 이성에서 생태적 이성으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 아동이 숲의 생태계를 어떻게 경험하고 인식하여 그의 친환경적 의식과 능력을 키울 수 있는가를 세 가지로 논의하였다. 첫째는 현재의 학교교육은 아동으로 하여금 나무와 숲을 도구로 삼아 산업사회를 부흥시키는 인간의 도구적 능력인‘과학적 이성’ 증대에 집중하였다. 이로 인해 학교는 아동의 생태적 감성과 능력을 기르지 못하고 있음을 지적하였다. 둘째, 아동이 숲과 같은 생태계를 인식하는 두 가지 길인 ‘이성’과 ‘경험’을 통해 숲교육의 철학적 기초를 탐구하였다. 이 두 인식통로는 근대철학의 핵심개념이다. 아동은 자기 내부에 있는 이성을 통해 생태적 세계를 사유하고 판단하고 추리한다. 즉 이성은 숲과 같은 생태계를 인식하는 핵심기능이다. 다른 한편으로, 아동은 경험으로 생태계를 인식한다. 경험은 감각적 경험과 이성적 경험으로 구분된다. 이 두 경험의 통합으로 인간은 숲의 생태계를 통합적으로 인식하게 된다. 셋째, 이 연구에서는 숲교육의 목적은 아동으로 하여금 자연에 대한 경험과 생태적 이성 함양을 통해 생태계 위기의 상황을 비판적으로 성찰하고 자연을 존중하고 사랑하는 태도와 의식을 형성하도록 이끌어 주는 것임을 강조하였다. 그리고 이러한 목적에 도달하기 위한 방안으로 로크와 루소 그리고 그 뒤를 잇는 듀이의 경험철학에 일맥상통하는 자연주의적 교수법을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This article discusses how children can develop their sense and ability in eco-friendliness by experiencing and recognizing the ecosystem of forest in three ways. First, it argues the current schooling focuses on emphasizing “scientific rationality”, which treats trees and forests merely as a human tool for industrial development. Second, this article inquire on the philosophical foundation of forest education through “rationality” and “experience”, the path through which the human beings recognize the ecosystem including the forest. These two pathways are the core concepts of modern philosophy. Human beings makes judgement and inference about the eco-world through one’s inner-rationality. In other words, rationality is the core function of recognizing the ecosystem such as the forest. Meanwhile, human beings also recognize the ecosystem through experience. There are two types of experience — sensuous and rational experience. By combining these two experiences, human beings are able to understand the ecosystem of forest comprehensively. On this ground, this article suggests the philosophy of forest education. Third, this article highlights the purpose of forest education is to guide childrens to develop an attitude and sense of respect towards the nature and to critically reflect on the environmental risks through experiencing the nature and cultivating eco-rationality. The naturalistic teaching method which Locke, Rousseau, and Dewey already haben explained is to be proper for this purpose of forest education
