국문 초록

본 고찰은 한국 근현대 불교사에서 특별한 행보를 간 백성욱의 행적 중에서 금강산 수행 공동체 역사와 성격을 정리한 글이다. 지금껏 백성욱의 생애와 사상에 대한 연구는 집중적으로 주목되지 않았다. 여기에서 다루고 있는 백성욱의 금강산 수행 10년에 대한 역사적, 사상적 측면에서의 정리와 분석도 거의 부재하였다. 그래서 이 글에서는 금강산 수행의 역사적인 정리에 주목을 하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 다음과 같은 측면을 유의하였다. 첫째, 금강산 수행의 개요를 6하원칙에 의거하여 정리하는 것에 주안점을 두었다. 둘째, 금강산 수행은 백성욱 개인적 차원 뿐만 아니라 공동체 수행이라는 측면에서 접근하고자 하였다. 셋째, 금강산 수행은 결사적인 성격을 갖고 있었음을 주목하였다. 넷째, 금강산 수행은 사부대중이 자급자족을 하면서 추진된 근대불교의 최초성을 갖게 되었다. 이와 같은 측면에서 접근한 이 글이 백성욱의 생애, 근현대불교의 수행 공동체, 수행 결사, 백성욱의 수행 변화 등에 참고가 되길 기대한다.

영문 초록

This review summarizes the activities of Baek Seong-wook, who took a special step in the history of modern and contemporary Buddhism in Korea. So far, research on Baek's life and thoughts has not been focused on the research. The historical and ideological aspects of Baek Seong-wook's 10 years of execution at Mt. Geumgang were also largely absent. Therefore, this article wanted to pay attention to the historical arrangement of the Geumgangsan Mountain. To this end, the following aspects were noted. First, the focus was on organizing the outline of the performance of Mt. Geumgang in accordance with the Six-Party Principles. Second, it was intended to approach the Geumgangsan Mountain in terms of community performance as well as on a personal level. Third, it was noted that the performance of Mt. Geumgang had a desperate nature. Fourth, the performance of the Geumgangsan Mountain was initiated by the self-sufficiency of the members of the division. In this regard, I hope that this article will serve as a reference to Baek's life, the community of modern and contemporary Buddhism, the association of his conduct, and the change of his performance.
