영문 초록

Schwannoma is a benign tumor that arises from the Schwann cells of the nerve sheath. Nearly 45% of schwannomas occur in the head and neck, and comprise 9% of skull base tumors. The most common intracranial schwannoma arise from the vestibular nerve and less commonly from the nerves of the jugular foramen and carotid canal. We report a case of schwannoma arising from the sympathetic plexus in the carotid canal and extending into the petrous apex and posterior cranial fossa. The patient visited our hospital for right hearing loss and dizziness. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an irregular shaped mass involving right cerebellopontine angle, middle ear, petrous apex and clivus. The mass was removed by infratemporal fossa type A approach combining with translabyrinthine approach.
