국문 초록

영화 <비바리움>(2019)은 기괴하고 낯설고 두려운 감정을 불러 일으키는 요소들을이용해서 결혼과 가족과 집, 그리고 노동과 모성성이라는 삶의 기본적인 부분들에 질문을 던진다. 이 영화는 비바리움에 던져진 존재들이 기쁨 없는 노동과 결혼생활을 하다가죽어가며 무의미한 반복과 순환을 거듭하는 것이 생의 전부라는 공포를 통해 삶의 의미를 묻는다. 본고에서는 전체적으로는 부조리라는 큰 틀에서 세부적으로는 언캐니와 그로테스크라는 키워드를 통해서 모성성과 노동의 문제를 비바리움이라는 공간과의 관계속에서 분석하고, 현대사회에서 점차 악몽이 되어가는 가족과 집의 의미를 고찰하였다. 비바리움의 세계는 현실 안에 감추어진 리얼한 세계이며 우리 내면에 존재하고 있는억압된 세계이다. 삶의 터전인 집이 닫힌 공간이자 적대자가 되어 주인공들을 죽음으로내몰고 가족은 공포가 되는 이 영화는 지금 여기 우리의 삶이 더없이 부조리하다는 것을보여준다. 삶을 리얼하게 모방함으로써 언캐니를 유발하고 피폐한 사회에 대한 혁명적이고 전복적인 에너지를 담은 그로테스크를 소환하는 이 영화는 그 리얼함을 인식하는순간 진정한 공포영화가 된다. 문명의 발전이 극한을 향해 달려가는 오늘날 상호 소통의불가능성과 목적 없는 순환구조에 떠밀려 살아가는 부조리한 삶에 대한 경고가 이 작품의 전복적 의의라 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The film Vivarium(2019) uses uncanny and grotesque to ask questions about the basic aspects of marriage, family and home, as well as labor and motherhood. The film reminds people of the meaning of life again through the fear that the beings thrown into Vivarium for no reason are dying of joyless labor and marriage, and meaningless repetition and cycle are everything. Overall, in the larger framework of absurdity, in detail, through the keywords uncanny and grotesque, the problems of motherhood and labor were analyzed in relation to the space of Vivarium, and the meaning of family and home which is becoming a nightmare in modern society. House becomes a basic condition in a capitalist society, where life begins with capital, ends with capital, and must be taken at any risk in the process. That is the critical perception of capital dependent human life shown by the film s cyclical structure. The world of Vivarium is a real world hidden in reality and a suppressed world inherent in us. The film, where the home, the basis of life, is a closed space and antagonist, drives the main characters to death and the family becomes fear, shows that our lives here are so absurd. The method and meaning of using the grotesque in Vivarium summons the revolutionary and subversive energy of the impoverished society hidden in the external grotesque of surrealism. The film, which imitates life so realistically that it triggers the uncanny and grotesque, becomes a real horror film as soon as we recognizes its realness. In today s world, where civilization s development is running to its limit, warnings about the impossibility of communication and the absurd life being pushed by an aimless circulation structure are the subversive significance of this film.
