A Study of Numeral Unit Bound Nouns of Loanwords

국문 초록

한국어는 다양하고 복잡한 단위성 의존명사 체계가 있는 것이 특징이다. 한국어의 단위성 의존명사는 대부분 고유어와 한자어로 이루어져 있으나 한국의 근대화 이후 외래어 의존명사의 수가 크게 증가하였다. 외래어 의존명사는 새로운 단위를 나타내는 경우가 많기 때문에 빠르게 한국어에 차용되어 정착되었다. 외래어 단위성 의존명사는 외국어나 고유어와 결합하지 않으며 십(十) 센티미터(centimeter) 와 같이 한자어 수관형사와 결합한다. 이는 외래어 단위성 의존명사가 한국어의 체계에 정착되어 있다는 것을 보여주는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 공시적인 현대 한국어에서 많이 쓰이고 있는 외래어 단위성 의존명사 중 대립적인 어휘로 볼 수 있는 “킬로”와 “밀리”를 비교하고 유의어로 볼 수 있는 “퍼센트”와 “프로”를 말뭉치를 통한 계량적인 분석 방법을 이용하여 비교한다. “킬로”와 “밀리”는 길이와 무게의 단위로 쓰이며 각각 1,000과 1/1000의 의미를 갖고 있다. 그러나 “밀리”의 경우, 무게의 단위로 거의 쓰이지 않는다. “퍼센트”와 “프로”는 사전적으로 동의어로 처리되어 있으나 공기 관계 분석을 통해 분화된 용법이 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 이후 외래어 단위성 의존명사의 양상과 특징을 확장적으로 논의하였다.

영문 초록

One of the characteristics of the Korean language is the various and complex system of numeral unit bound nouns. Most Korean numeral unit bound nouns are formed of Korean native character or formed of Chinese character, however, the number of bound nouns composed with loanwords have increased sharply after modernization of Korea. Since many bound nouns composed with loanword tend to express a whole different unit that had not been included in the Korean language system, they were borrowed and settled rapidly in Korean. Numeral unit bound nouns of loanwords do not combine with foreign language words or Korean native words, but with numeral nouns of Chinese character like sip(十) seynthimithe(centimeter) . It demonstrates that number of bound nouns composed with loanword have been established in Korean language system. This study uses quantitative method to analyze and compare khillo(kilo) and milli(milli)”, pheseynthu(percent) and phulo(pro) . They are numeral unit bound nouns composed with loanword, which are widely used in synchronic modern Korean language. Khillo(kilo) and milli(milli) are each used as a unit for length and weight, and they each have the meaning of 1,000 and 1/1000. However, milli(milli) is almost never used as a unit for weight in Korean. pheseynthu(percent) and phulo(pro) can be treated as a synonym in dictionary, but they can be verified through the collocation analysis that two different words with different usages. Based on such results, the study will further discuss extensively about the aspects and characteristics of a numeral unit bound nouns composed with loanword.
