국문 초록

이 글은 정치적 저항가능성과 권력의 관계에 대한 버틀러와 부르디외 간의 상이한 전망과 설명을 비판적으로 중재하기 위해, 수행성과 하비투스 개념 간의 쟁점과 접점을 검토한다. 이를 위해 버틀러의 수행성에서는 사회적 조건과 하비투스의 중요성을 역설하고, 부르디외의 하비투스에서는 수행성의 일부 특징을 고찰한다. 이 글은 양자 간의 접점이 결국 수행성의 적절성 조건에 대한 사회학적 해명에 있음을 밝힘으로써 매개될 수 있다고 주장한다. 또한 버틀러의 반복가능성과 탈맥락화 개념이 사실상 변화무쌍한 상황적 맥락을 이론화한 것이기 때문에, 버틀러의 수행성 개념은 이를 해명할 수 있는 하비투스 개념과 공명한다고 주장한다. 결과적으로 이 글은 버틀러가 오해한 하비투스의 ‘강한’ 용법을 ‘약한’ 것으로 교정할 때에야 비로소 정치적 저항가능성과 주체성에 대한 종합적 전망과 분석이 가능해 질 수 있으며, 이를 위해서는 후기 비트겐슈타인의 ‘규칙 따르기’ 논의가 중요하다고 제안한다.

영문 초록

This paper explores the theoretical interface and the point of argument on the concept of performance and habitus concepts of Butler and Bourdieu in the topic of political resistance (subversion) and power. To accomplish this, the importance of social conditions and habitus is emphasized in Butler’s the concept of performativity while in Bourdieu’s the concept of habitus, some features of the performativity are considered. I argue that they can be connected by revealing the felicity conditions of performativity through social explanation. In addition, this paper argues that Butler s concept of performativity resonates with the concept of habitus which explains an ever-changing situational context because Butler’s the concept of iterability and decontextualization are a theorization of an ever-changing situational context. As a result, it is suggested that a comprehensive vision and analysis of the possibility of political resistance and the subjectivity can be made possible when the “strong” usage of habitus, which Butler misunderstood, is corrected to the “weak” usage of habitus. For this, it is suggested that the later Wittgenstein’s discussion of “following the rules” is important.
