국문 초록

연쇄살인은 인간사회에 있어서 두려운 그리고 충격을 주는 사회문제다. 지역사회와 주민들은 지역 내에서 연쇄살인이 발생하면 공포와 공황상태를 겪기도 한다. 살인의 분류는 여러 가지가 있으나 최소한 피해자가 3명, 4명을 넘는 경우 피해자의 숫자와 범행 발생 양상에 따라 연속살인, 대량살인, 발작적 살인과 연쇄살인 등 여러 종류로 구분할 수 있다. 연쇄살인은 나머지 살인의 종류에 비해 심리적 냉각기라는 측면에서 명확하게 차별화될 수 있다. 살인사건의 발생시 각 사건들은 독자적으로 발생되므로 상관성이 없어 보이며 따라서 살인간의 연관성을 인식하기는 쉽지 않다. 피해자, 시간, 범죄 현장 등은 심리적 냉각기와는 각자 개별적으로 의존하는 것이다. 즉 피해자, 시간, 범죄현장이라는 요소와 냉각기와는 독립적이다. 심리적 냉각기는 연쇄살인범의 내부에서 솟구치는 주기적인 살인 욕구에 달려있다. 각기 다른 시간과 장소에서 발생하는 살인 사건 간에 연관성을 추정하는 것은 쉬운 일은 아니다. 연쇄살인에 있어서 또 다른 취약점은 수사기관의 관할 문제다. 연쇄살인을 다루는 경찰 의 입장에서 수사관할이라는 문제에 때때로 봉착하게 된다. 수사관할로 인해 연쇄살인을 예측할 수 있는 기회를 놓치기도 한다. 연쇄살인수사에 있어서 중요한 요소는 각각의 살인 사건간의 연관성 분석이다. 연관성 분석을 통해서 동 사건이 연쇄살인범에 의해 행해진 것인지 아니면 각 사건별로 다른 살인범에 의해 저질러진 것인지를 추론하는 것이 가능할 것이다. 일반적으로 살인범은 현장에 자신의 범행수법과 독특한 서명을 남기는 경향이 있다. 이러한 살인 사건간의 연관성 분석을 통해서는 범죄현장에 남겨진 연쇄살인범의 범행 수법과 독특한 서명을 파악하는 것이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구는 한국에서 잘 알려져 있는 사건이긴 하지만 미제 사건으로 남아있는 연쇄살인 사건의 범행수법과 서명행위에 대해 고찰한 것이다.

영문 초록

Serial murders are a fearful and sensational problem in human society. It makes communities and residents panic with fear. There are many murder types; spree murder, mass murder, rampage murder and serial murder. These murder types have common features such as the number of victims exceeds at least three to four. However, serial murders have a distinct difference compared to other types of murder, such as emotional cooling - off period. At first glance, only a few can recognize the interrelations among serial murder cases because often these cases occur independently and seem unrelated. The victim, time and criminal scenes are different depending on the emotional cooling - off period. It depends on periodic ejection arousal from inner mind of a serial murder. It is difficult to assume and connect a linkage among serial murder cases which happened at different times and locations. The other vulnerable factor is a criminal jurisdiction of investigation. Police investigator’s countermeasures to deal with serial murder cases have been affected by jurisdiction of investigation frequently. The important factor during serial murder investigation is the linkage analysis among murder cases. Through the linkage analysis, it is possible to identify whether the murder cases were committed by a serial killer or if each of these cases were committed independently by more than one criminal. Generally, murder remains modus operandi (MO) and signature at crime scene. To analyze linkage among murder cases, it is necessary to scrutinize MO and the signature which remains at crime scenes. This article reviews and examines the linkage analysis among modus operandi, signature at well-known but unsolved murder cases in South Korea.
