학자금 지원이 4년제 대학생의 학업성취, 대학생활 적응, 교과 및 비교과 참여에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 학자금 지원 여부에 따른 4년제 대학생들의 학업성취(GPA), 대학생활 적응, 교과 및 비교과 참여 수준의 차이를 분석하고, 학자금 지원이 4년제 대학생들의 학업성취, 대학생활 적응, 교과 및 비교과 참여에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국장학재단 KOSAPS(Korea Student Aid Panel Survey) 제2차 패널조사 데이터를 활용하여 총 2,277명의 설문 자료를 대상으로 독립표본 t검정(independent sample t-test)과 다중회귀분석(multiple regression analysis)을 수행하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 장학금 수혜 여부에 따라 학업성취, 대학생활 적응, 교과 참여도에서, 학자금 대출 여부에 따라 학업성취에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 발견되었다. 둘째, 등록금 대비 장학금 수혜 비율은 학업성취, 대학생활 적응에 통계적으로 유의미한 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 등록금 대비 학자금 대출 비율은 학업성취에는 통계적으로 유의미한 부적 영향을, 대학생활 적응에는 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 넷째, 교과 및 비교과 참여에 대한 학자금 지원의 유의미한 영향은 발견되지 않았다. 결론적으로 학자금 지원 가운데 장학금 수혜는 대학생활의 학업성취, 대학생활 적응에 효과적이며, 학자금 대출은 대학생활 적응에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 다만, 그 영향이 크지는 않았으며, 오히려 대학생활의 비인지적 성취인 대학생활 적응, 교과 및 비교과 참여에 공통적으로 큰 영향을 미친 변수는 통제변수 중 대인관계 만족도, 스트레스, 자아존중감과 같은 개인 심리적 변수로 나타났다. 따라서 학생들의 대학생활 적응, 교과 및 비교과 참여를 높이기 위해서는 학자금 지원과 더불어 개인의 심리적 요인들 또한 중요하게 다뤄질 필요가 있음을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the effects of financial aid(both grants and loans) on academic achievement(GPA), adjustment to college, and participation in curricular and extra-curricular activities among students attending 4-year college. To attain this purpose, this study used 2,277 survey data from the 2nd panel of Korea Student Aid Panel Survey(KOSAPS) provided by the Korea Student Aid Foundation. Independent sample t-test and multiple regression analysis were conducted as the research method. As a result, a significant difference in GPA, adjustment to college, and curricular activity participation was found between students who received grants and who did not. Multiple regression considering the ratio of grants to college tuition showed a significant positive effect on GPA and adjustment to college. The ratio of loans to college tuition also held a significant positive effect on adjustment to college, but showed a significant negative effect on GPA. No significant effect of financial aid was found upon curricular and extracurricular activity participation. Therefore, compared to loans, grants appeared to be effective in achieving both GPA and adjustment. Focusing on the point that the effect of financial aid was not large, this study also suggests the importance of psychological variables such as interpersonal relationship satisfaction , ‘stress’, ‘self-esteem’ which showed the largest positive effects among all four domains. The emotional and psychological approach should be introduced alongside with financial aid, to enhance student s academic achievement, adjustment to college and participation of college provided activities, because student grants have the limitation of expansion due to limited financial aid resources.
