A Qualitative Case Study on the Post-traumatic Growth Experiences of One Victim of Sexual Violence

국문 초록

본 연구는 성폭력 피해의 외상 후 성장을 경험하는 과정에서 어떤 경험을 하였는지를 밝히기 위해, 성폭력을 경험한 한 명의 연구참여자를 심층면접 한 질적 사례 연구이다. 연구문제는 첫째, 성폭력 피해 후에 어떠한 경험을 하였는가, 둘째, 성폭력 피해 트라우마를 극복하는 과정에서 어떤 경험을 하였는가 이다. 연구참여자는 40대 중반의 여성이고 어렸을 적에 친족 성폭력 피해를 경험하였다. 심층면접을 하고 전사한 자료를 질적 사례연구 방법으로 분석을 하여, 56개 개념과 38개 하위범주, 18개 범주를 도출하였다. 연구결과로, 첫째, 연구참여자는 성폭력 후에 침습적 기억, 피해 인식에 따른 부정적 정서, 방어기제 등 외상 후 스트레스 증상을 경험하였다. 둘째, 연구참여자는 성폭력 피해로 인한 외상 후 스트레스를 극복하는 과정에서 외상 후 성장의 세 가지 요인을 모두 경험하고 있었다. 즉, 자기개방을 통한 성장의 시작, 사람들의 동감과 위로, 직면과 수용, 자기와 가족관계인식, 가족에게 자기개방, 가족 수용과 활발한 감정교류, 타인 수용과 신뢰 회복, 성장을 향한 몸부림, 자기에 대한 자신감과 애정, 삶에 대한 수용 등을 경험하고 있었다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 연구의 한계와 후속연구를 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study is a qualitative case study that conducted an in-depth-interview with a sexual violence victim to find out what the participant experienced during the process of post-traumatic growth. The research questions include: what did the participant experience after sexual violence and what did she experience during the process of overcoming the trauma. The participant was a woman in mid-40s who experienced sexual violence by a relative when young. The transcribed data of the in-depth interview were analyzed using a qualitative case-study method, derving 56 concepts, 38 subcategories, and 18 categories. The results are as follows. First, the participant experienced post-traumatic stress symptoms such as invasive memory, negative emotion, and defense mechanism. Second, the participant experienced multiple factors of post-traumatic growth during the process of overcoming the post-traumatic stress of sexual violence, including growth through self-disclosure, sympathy and comfort from others, facing and acceptance of trauma, self and family perception, self-disclosure to family, acceptance by and emotional exchange with family, acceptance of others and trust restoration, struggle for growth, self-confidence and affection, acceptance of life, and so on.
