국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 구성주의 관점에서 하향식 유아 인성교육 연구를 검토하는데 있다. 먼저 저자는 유아 인성교육의 구성주의 접근을 소개한 후 이를 바탕으로 인성 개념과 인성 평가의 복합성을 살펴보았다. 또한 다양한 인성 결핍 사례들과 학교교육 사이의 인과적 연결고리의 타당성을 고찰했다. 마지막으로 일상의 인성교육 탐구를 위한 상향식 질적 연구의 의미를 논했다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인성의 의미는 맥락 의존적 복합성을 가진다. 따라서 인성을 계량화하여 발달 정도를 수량적으로 측정하는 일에는 많은 어려움이 따른다. 둘째, 각종 인성교육 정책 및 프로그램 개발의 근거로 언급된 인성 결핍 사례들의 다수는 그 해석의 복합성 때문에 도덕적 의미를 쉽게 단정하기 어렵다. 결과적으로 인성 결핍 사례들과 학교교육을 연결하는 일에 연구자들의 주의가 요구된다. 끝으로 인성교육 연구의 객관성 여부는 특정 연구기법의 전유물이라고 보기 힘들다. 또한 인성교육 탐구를 위한 상향식 연구는 현장의 다양한 사례 사이의 공감대 형성과 새로운 논의 점을 제공한다는 점에서 매우 중요한 의미를 갖는다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the principles of top-down research for character education for young children. Above all, the author introduced constructivist perspectives on character education, through which the complexity of the meaning of moral character and its evaluation was scrutinized. The author investigated the validity of causal linkages between education and diverse social problems, which have been frequently mentioned as the rationale for character education policies and programs. Lastly, the author discussed the significance of bottom-up qualitative research for character education, which focuses on naturally occurring character education in children s daily lives. The conclusions of this study are the following. First, the meaning of moral character is context-dependent. Therefore, it might be hard to quantify moral character to evaluate its development. Second, social problems and historical events are too complex to judge their moral meanings. Therefore, researchers should carefully analyze causal relationships between education and social problems. Lastly, guaranteeing the objective validity of research is not the property of particular research methods. Qualitative research is as objective as quantitative research in that it provides opportunities for empathy or to debate teachers different perspectives.
