빙허각 이씨의 고증학적 태도와 유서 저술

국문 초록

본고는 청규박물지의 ｢화목부｣를 대상으로 체제상, 서술상, 번역상의 특징을 분석하였다. 청규박물지의 ｢화목부｣를 대상으로 한 이유는 달성 서씨 가문에서 저술한 유서류와 빙허각의 청규박물지를 비교해보면 청규박물지의 특징이 더욱 잘 파악될 것이라 기대하였기 때문이다. 아울러 그 과정에서 빙허각 이씨의 지식 수용의 특징, 18세기 말에서 19세기 초반 여성의 학문과 교육의 실체가 자연스럽게 드러날 것으로 기대하였기 때문이다. 청규박물지의 ｢화목부｣의 체제상의 특징은 분류체계를 엄격하게 세우고 각 분류마다 정교하게 교정한 자료를 배열한 완성본이 아니라는 점이다. 유서의 체제상의 미비는 예로부터 자주 지적 되어온 문제이다. 방대한 서적에서 방대한 자료를 뽑아 분류하는 과정에서 대부분의 유서류는 이러한 문제를 노출하였던 것이다. 하지만 빙허각의 청규박물지의 최종본이 완성본인가 아닌가, 어느 정도의 완성도에 이른 것인가를 질문하는 것은 중요한 문제이다. 빙허각이 유서 저술을 얼마나 치열하게 하였는가를 가늠하는 잣대가 되기 때문이다. 청규박물지의 ｢화목부｣의 서술상의 특징은 첫째, 서적 인용의 특징으로 우리나라에서 찾기가 어려운 서적에서 인용한 자료가 많다는 점이다. 빙허각이청규박물지에 수록할 자료를 뽑고 출전을 밝힐 때에 원 출전을 밝히고자 하였기 때문이다. 여기서 빙허각의 고증적인 학문 태도의 일단을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 자료 수집의 특징으로 고사나 허구적인 이야기를 모으는 데에 집중을 하였다는 점이다. 시문을 지을 때에 공구서나 보조 자료로 활용하기 위해 이러한 자료를 모았음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 자료 서술의 특징으로 출처가 다른 자료의 내용을 합하여 말하고자 하는 내용이 선명하게 드러나도록 편집하였다는 점이다. 다음 청규박물지의 언해의 특징을 들 수 있다. 빙허각은 주로 한문 서적에서 자료를 뽑아 세 단계로 언해하여 청규박물지 저술을 하였다. 한문을 읽기 어려운 여성독자를 위한 선택이었다고 볼 수 있다. 빙허각의 언해의 단계를 분석하면 그가 진단한 당대 여성의 지식, 향후 여성의 지식을 고증할 수 있다. 이는 앞으로의 과제로 남긴다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the characteristics of ｢Hwamokbu(花木部)｣ of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 in terms of system, content, and translation. ｢Hwamokbu(花木部)｣ of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』has been selected as the study target since one of the common topics of Yousea(類書) written regarding 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 by Bingheogak and the Dalseong Seo household - the husband home of Bingheogak(憑虛閣) - is 花 (flower), 木 (tree), 穀 (corn), 果 (fruit), 草 (grass) and when this common topic is compared, the characteristics of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 will be identified much better. Furthermore, in the comparison process, the characteristics of Bingheogak Lee((憑虛閣 李氏) accommodating knowledge and the true nature of women s studies and education from late 18th century to early 19th century will be revealed naturally. The system characteristics of ｢Hwamokbu(花木部)｣ of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 is that it is not a complete version which established a solid classifying system and arranged the elaborately proofread materials. Incomplete system of Yousea(類書) has been pointed out as a problem from a long time ago. Even if the phenomenon can take place from classifying vast materials from enormous publications, most Yousea(類書) have received such a criticism. Nonetheless, it is important to ask whether the Yousea(類書) by Bingheogak is complete or not and to what level has its degree of completion become important since these questions are related to the writing attitude of Bingheogak. This task will be finalized after analyzing the entire 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』. The first descriptive characteristics of ｢Hwamokbu(花木部)｣ of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 is that it has a number of citations from the publications that cannot be found in Korea. When Bingheogak chose the materials to contain in 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』, he wanted to reveal the original source. This reveals his archaeological academic attitude. Second, the characteristic of data citation is that it focused on collecting idioms derived from ancient events or fictional stories. This is because Bingheogak wrote Yousea(類書) after considering utilizing as a tool and supplementary data which could give him assistance when writing poems or sentences. Third, the characteristic of listing data is that the data were collected in the style of clearly identifying the meaning of certain topics by categorizing the data which source is different. This means that he edited Yousea(類書) by himself with the intention to show plenty of data in Yousea(類書) by citing other data. Next, the Korean translation characteristics (諺解) of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 can be mentioned. Bingheogak wrote Yousea(類書) by gathering data from books in Chinese characters and translated them into Korean after processing them in three stages. This method was chosen for those who found it difficult to read Chinese characters. Then, the language choice of 『Cheonggyubakmulji(淸閨博物志)』 by Bingheogak took into account female readers. When analyzing the stages of Bingheogak s translation, the historical evidence toward the knowledge of women from that age and the knowledge of women of the future diagnosed by Bingheogak can be studied. This is the task of future studies.
