국문 초록

본 연구는 인류의 지속가능한 미래와 더 나은 삶의 질을 위하여 생명윤리 관점에서 생태교육의 방향을 탐색하고자 하였다. 우선 Klafki의 도야이론에 근거하여 지속가능한 미래를 위하여서는 인류가 당면하고 있는 ‘시대적 핵심문제’에 대처할 수 있는 능력을 다가올 세대에게 길러주어야 함을 역설하였다. 지속가능발전교육(ESD)도 이러한 노력의 연장선상에서 논의를 전개하였다. ESD는 비단 환경적 문제뿐만 아니라 사회적, 경제적 문제를 전지구적으로 고찰하면서 기초교육의 질을 향상시키고, 대중의 인식과 이해를 증진시키고, 모든 종류의 훈련을 제공하고 있다. 하지만 ESD는 기존의 환경교육과의 위상설정이라든가 선진국과 개발도상국간의 이익상충 등의 문제를 안고 있다. 이러한 근본문제를 해결하기 위해서는 생명윤리에 바탕을 둔 생태교육에로의 관점전환이 필요하다. 생명윤리를 뒷받침하기 위하여 Meyer-Abich의 ‘더불어 사는 세계(Mitwelt)’, Schweitzer의 생명외경, Jonas의 책임의 원칙, 김지하의 생명중심윤리를 탐구하였다. 결론적으로 모든 인류의 지속가능한 미래를 위해서는 이제까지의 그릇된 생명관을 반성하고, 미래대처능력을 길러 나가며, ‘지구는 하나’라는 굳건한 인식하에 지구와 생명의 다 양성을 존중하고, 미래세대의 삶까지도 책임을 지는 윤리적 자세가 절실하게 요구된다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to explore ecological education in terms of environmental ethics for our sustainable future and better quality of life. On the basis of Klafki s theory of Bildung it is argued that ability to cope with the present and future problems is needed for the youth. A central feature of the concept ESD is that its primary focus was shifted from traditional environmentalism to the notion of social, economic and environmental sustainability. Seeking the current trends of ESD some limits was mentioned that such a social contract is not practicable and social change is a complex process which is not easily predictable. Therefore, I argued that ecological education should be based on life ethics. Agreed with Bonnet I emphasized that the essence of sustainability is intrinsic to authentic human consciousness. The Meyer-Abich s concept of Mitwelt makes clear for us to respect other organisms in their own value. The ethics of reverence for life(Schweitzer) must keep in mind that our responsibility spreads beyond inter-human relations to the biosphere(Jonas). A life-centric ethics like Ji-Ha Kim can be seen as an atempt to introduce spirituality to reformative movement. In Conclusion, this paper suggested 1) to reflect the wrong way of life and to educate competencies to cope with the future, 2) to safe our quality of life through coexistence and mutual survival, and ‘for our only one earth’ we should 3) respect earth and life in all its diversity, 4) care for the community of life and 5) secure earth s bounty and beauty for present and future generation.
