영문 초록

When rice seeds are irradiated, various mutations may occur at many parts of the seed embryo because the embryo is of multicellular structure. For the mutation to be transmitted to the next generations, it must occur in the cells of L_(II) layer in the shoot apex of the embryo as the sporogenous tissue of the panicles is derived from these cells. On the other hand, it has been known that the mutation often occurs as sector in the panicle and the segregation ratio of mutant in M₂ would highly deviate from the expected ratio. This means that the sporogeous tissue of a panicle is made up of two sectors, one being derived from mutated initial cell and the other from non-mutated, initial cell(s). How to increase the size of mutated sector in the panicle or in the plant is a matter of importance in the mutation breeding. These facts lead to the study on the number of initial cells of sporogenous tissue of panicle and to the study on the mutation of initial cells. In this paper discussions were made concerning the M₂segregation ratio of mutant, size of mutated sector in the M₁ panicle and the initial cells of sporogenous tissue, presenting rather different concepts on these problems from those of previous workers, based mostly on the author’s unpublished works.
