서경질서 규장각본에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

성호(星湖) 이익(李瀷)의 서경질서는 몇 가지 필사본이 있는데, 그 중 동양문고 소장본(이하 동양문고본)이 가장 널리 알려져 있다. 그 이유는 한국학 연구자들이 가장 많이 사용하는 여강출판사본 성호전서에 수록되어 있기 때문이다. 동양문고본은 또한 성균관대학교 존경각의 경학자료집성 데이터베 이스에서도 저본으로 사용하였다. 최근 한림대학교 태동고전연구소 ‘성호전서정본화사업’의 작업 과정에서 발견된 서경질서에는 ‘동양문고본’ 이외에, 국립중앙도서관소장본 2책(이하 국중본), 서울대학교 규장각소장본 1책(이하 규장각본), 국민대학교 성곡도서 관소장본 1책(이하 국민대본), 화경당소장본 1책(이하 화경당본), 성호기념관 소장본 1책(이하 성호기념관본) 등 6종이 있다. 각 이본을 대상으로 하여 표점, 교감 작업을 거친 결과, 규장각본을 제외한 다른 필사본은 내용이 대동소 이하여, 하나의 계열로 묶을 수 있으며, 이중 국중본 서경질서가 선본이라는 사실을 알게 되었다. 한편 규장각본은 다른 필사본과는 확연한 차이를 보이고 있는데, 본고에서는 다른 필사본과 비견되는 규장각본의 특징과, 자료적 특성과 가치를 밝히고자 하였다. 규장각본의 특징으로는, 첫째 서경질서의 서문이 있고, 둘째 ‘附’가 첨가 되어 있으며 대부분은 성호사설 등의 다른 저술에도 실려 있으며, 셋째 단락의 수와 편차 등에서 차이가 있으며 분량 면에서는 다소 많고, 넷째 한 단락 안에서 교정·첨가·삭제 등의 편집 내용이 비교적 많다는 것 등을 들 수 있다. 위의 문헌적 특성으로 볼 때 규장각본은 다음과 같은 특징이 있음을 알 수있다. 첫째 후대 문하에 의해 필사되었을 가능성이 크다. 둘째 다른 필사본에 비해 비교적 후대에 필사되었다. 셋째는 성호의 서경과 관련된 다른 저술및 자료들을 참고하여 첨삭하는 형식으로 제작되었다. 이를 통해 여러 서경 질서의 필사본과 성호사설 등 성호의 서경 관련 저서들의 저술 경위를 파악할 수 있었다. 규장각본의 자료적 가치로는 첫째 서경질서의 초기 원고를 복원할 수 있는 근거를 마련해 주고, 둘째 질서와 사설 등 성호의 서경과 관련된 다른 저술과의 관계를 규명할 수 있으며, 셋째 서경질서에 대한 연구의 폭을 확대시킬 수 있다는 것 등이다.

영문 초록

Several manuscipts of Seongho’s Seogyeong Jilseo(書經疾書), a.k.a. Seongho(星湖) Yi Ik(李瀷)’s Memorandum on Shujing(書經), a.k.a. The Book of Histrorical Documents are known nowadays. Among those manuscripts one held at Toyo Bunko(東洋文庫) library is most widely known because it is included in the Seongho Jeonseo(星湖全書) published by Yeogang Publishing Company that has been used by most scholars of Korean studies. This manuscript is also used as the text of online DB of Complete Collection of the Korean Study of Confucian Classics of Jongyeonggak Library of SungKyunkwan University. Taedong Institute of Eastern Classics of Hallym University is now carrying out Seongho Yi Ik Standard Edition Project that of course includes Seongho’s Memorandum of Shujing. The manuscrips of Seongho’s Seogyeong Jilseo that this project team has collected and used in the course of textual analysis are now held by institutions as below: Toyo Bunko library in Japan, the National Library of Korea, Kyujanggak(奎章閣) library of Seoul National University, Sungkok library of Kookmin University, Hwagyeongdang(和敬堂) in Andong, and Seongho Memorial Hall in Ansan. These six manuscripts are substantially the same except the Kyujanggak manuscript. It is unique and worthy of attention. The Kyujanggak manuscript of Seogyeong Jilseo has textual characteristics as below. Firstly, it has the preface of Seongho Yi Ik. Secondly, it has many appendices that are not contained in the other manuscripts, but that are found in Yi Ik’s other works like Seongho Saseol(星湖僿說), a.k.a. Seongho’s Miscellaneous Explanations. Thirdly, the number and arrangement of chapters and paragraphs are different from other manuscripts, and it has larger volume than the others. Fourthly, it has a lot of signs of corretion and insertions of words or sentences. From the textual characteristics described above, the manuscription process of the Kyujanggak manuscript can be inferred as below. Firstly, it is written by a later pupil of Seongho group. Secondly, it is made later than the other manuscripts. Thirdly, it has parts edited and quotated from Yi Ik’s other works on Shujing. From the points listed above, the order of making of six manuscripts of Seogyeong Jilseo and the other works on Shujing of Yi Ik can be inferred. The value of the Kyujanggak manuscript of Seogyeong Jilseo lies in three points: firstly, it can give some critical clues to restore Yi Ik’s original manuscript; secondly, it plays a key role in investigating relation among Yi Ik’s works on Shujing contained in Memoranda, Explanations or the other works; thirdly, it provides much material to broaden and deepen our understanding of Seogyeong Jilseo.
