영문 초록

In orthognathic surgery of dentofacial deformity, several authors have reported that occlusal plane alteration is important factor in functional and esthetic improvement. At now, many surgeons consider not only anterior-posterior movement but also rotation of maxilla and mandible in surgical treatment of skeletal class II and class III malocclusion. This article discusses the characteristics of occlusal plane in skeletal class III malocclusion group and suggests interrelationship between occlusal plane angle and other parts of mandible. The subjects consisted of 69 class III malocclusion patients(49 closed bite, 20 open bite) and 20 normal occlusion individuals(control group). The results were as follows. 1. There was no significant difference between class III closed bite group and class III open bite group in occlusal plane angle, palatal plane angle, condyle length and gonial angle. 2. There was significant difference between control group (normal occlusion group) and class III malocclusion group in SN-Occ angle and SN-PP angle. These angles are of lower value in class III malocclusion group than control group. 3. There was significant difference between control group and class III malocclusion group in condyle length and gonial angle. They are of higher value in class III malocclusion group. 4. The data in this study suggests that occlusal plane is somewhat interrelated with the growth of condyle length and gonial angle.
