대학 유형과 대학생의 발달, 학습 참여 간의 관련성 및 대응성 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 배상훈․김혜정(2012)이 개발한 한국형 대학생 학습 참여 2013년 조사자료를 바탕으로 하여 대학 유형으로 대표되는 환경적 요인과 대학생의 발달과 학습 참여의 하위 요소들 간의 관련성을 집단 간 평균 비교 분석과 대응일치분석방법을 통해 분석하였다. 대학의 여러 특징들(소재지, 규모, 설립주체)을 기준으로 실시한 t-test에서는 대학생의 3단계 발달 중 소속 단계와 공동체 기여 단계에서, 그리고 대학생의 학습참여 6요인 대부분에서 그룹들 간의 유의미한 차이가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 이어 연구자는 위의 세 가지 유형 기준을 바탕으로 대학의 유형을 여덟 가지(수도권 대형 국립, 수도권중소 국립, 수도권 대형 사립, 수도권 중소 사립, 지방 대형 국립, 지방 중소 국립, 지방 대형 사립, 지방 중소 사립 등)로 세분한 후 이 유형별로 대학생의 발달과 학습 참여에서 차이가 나타나는지를 탐색하기 위해 대응일치분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 8개 유형마다 대학생의 3단계 발달 과정과 학습 참여 6요인과 각각 다른 거리를 나타냄으로써, 대학의 주요 여건이나 특징에 따라 학생의 발달과 학습 참여를 유도하는데 있어 중점적으로 개선해야 하는 과제가 상이함을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines how differently Korean colleges and universities promote college student’s development and engagement in learning. The researcher uses the 2013 Korean National Study of Student Engagement(K-NSSE) data of 18,257 4-year college students. Initially, the t-tests based on various college types were conducted to test if there is significant difference of student development and engagement in learning affected by institutional traits and conditions. Secondly, in an attempt to compare institutional strengths and weaknesses in a more infographical way, the method of correspondence analysis was implemented. In the simple t-tests, the three stages of college student’s development and the six factors of student engagement revealed significant differences between college groups implying that different types or conditions of institutions matter in this respect. The results of correspondence analyses suggested that institutions of different conditions have different challenges in promoting student’s development and engagement. The study presents higher education institutions easier and more intuitive ways to identify their strengths and weakness in supporting college student’s development than other statistical methods.
