The purpose of this study was to reverify the results of previous studies on the effects of training for leg muscular strength on jumping ability by measuring changes in records of hopping and sargent jump paying attention on methods of raising basic physical strength through application of weight training and plyometric training models which strengthen leg muscular strength using muscular supplementary exercise. In addition, this study aimed to present basic data for improving exercise performance ability to players and field instructors by finding out more effective training for muscular strength. The subject of this study was 24 male university students, who were classified into weight training for 12 students and plyometric training for 12 students. The subjects of testing weight training exercised a speed-oriented method, repetition by set, a pyramid load method for 8 weeks and regarding weight load, after measuring 1RM of an individual and 75% of an individual was applied. In accordance with the principle of increasing load, the 1RM was carried out with weight which could be repeated 15 times for the first 3 weeks with 3 sets, 20 times with 2 sets between 4 and 6-week and 25 times with one set between 7 and 8-week. With regard to plyometric training, depth jump and hopping were conducted for 8 weeks. For load strength, depth jump training was exercised with 50 cm for the 1 ~3 weeks, 60 cm between 4 and 6-week, and 70cm between 7 and 8-week, and hopping training was performed with 50/10m between 1 and 2-week, 60cm/10m between 4 and 6-week, and 70cm/10m between 7 week and 8-week. To verify hypotheses of this study, items of each group were compared after average and standard deviation were calculated. To verify significance of records between pre-test and post-test about effects of pre-test and post-test of each training, independent t-test and paired t-test were conducted. In addition, to verify significance of difference of improvement in records after each training, ANOVA analysis was carried out. The results of this study were obtained as follows: First, through weight training, the average record of hopping was improved by 2.9cm before the training(P<.05) and the average record of sargent jump was also improved by 3.9cm before training(P<.05). Second, through plyometric training for 8 weeks, the average record of hopping was improved by 5.8cm before the training and the average record of sargent jump was improved by 8.8cm(p<.05). Third, after 8-week training, the average record of hopping was higher in plyometric training than in weight training and the average record of sargent jump was high in plyometric training than in weight training, too(P<.05). As the-above results, that the average record of plyometric training was improved more in results of measuring each jump was uniform results of previous studies that plyometric training was the most effective in improving jump ability. Thus, it was concluded that plyometric training was identified with the preferred trend in recent training methods. It is thought that plyometric training methods and types of training depending on subjects must be developed scientifically and systematically in order to bring improvement and development in high-degree ability for match and exercise performance ability.
