The evolutionary adaptation of Sow Bug Killer (Dysdera crocata C. L. Koch, 1838) and its feeding behavior

영문 초록

Dysdera crocata (Koch), well known as a specialist feeder of terrestrial isopods (Woodlice, Sow bugs) is being described in its method of catching and feeding on its preys, using its long rapierlike chelicerae. This present paper suggests Dysdera crocota is evolutionarily adapted to hunt for terrestrial isopods but does not support previous claim that the chelicerae are adaptations enabling the spider to penetrate the dorsal carapace of its prey. Prey preference and capture frequency of Dysdera Crocota are also discussed as part of its feeding behavior.
