확장학습을 통한 노인학습자의 활동체계 변화과정과 의미

국문 초록

고령화 사회의 진입으로 인한 인구통계학적 변화와 노년층에 대한 인식 전환의 필요성에 대한 담론은 노인에 대한 사회적 관심의 증가와 다양한 학문적 논의와 쟁점을 파생시키고 있다. 노년층 대상의 교육도 과거 노인을 주로 교육의 수혜자 또는 참여자로만 인식하던 수동적 학습자의 관점에서 벗어나, 학습자가 자신을 둘러싼 환경과 역동적 상호작용을 통해 성장 및 발전하는 주체적이고 능동적인 학습자 중심으로 변화하고 있다. 이와 같은 양상을 살펴보기 위해 본 연구는 노인학습자들이 실질적 활동을 지속적으로 변화 및 발전시켜 나가는 확장적 모습에 주목하여 그들이 어떻게 삶을 재구성하고 정체성을 변화시켜 나가는가에 대한 특성을 문화역사적 활동이론을 근거로 살펴보았다. 분석결과 노인학습자들이 평생교육 프로그램에 참여하고 학습하는 전 과정에서 경험하는 다양한 여러 수준의 모순들은 노인들의 학습 또는 생활하는데 있어 장애요인으로 작용하기 보다는, 새로운 문화적ㆍ사회적 규칙과 도구를 배울 수 있고 자연스러운 공동체를 형성 및 확장하는 전환의 계기로 작용하였다. 이러한 결과는 노인들 역시 새로운 자신의 삶을 스스로 계획하고, 더 나아가 지역사회의 공헌함으로써 자신의 활동체계 안에서 적극적이고 능동적인 주체로 자리매김하거나 또 다른 활동체계로 확장함을 보여주었으며, 결과적으로 노인학습자들 역시 지속적인 성장과 발전이 가능하다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the process of the Elderly's expansive learning through changing and transforming their activity system. Recently, as the society has changed into an aging society, the necessity of changing social consciousness on the Elderly causes social concerns and academic discussions about the Elderly's life and learning. In other words, it is necessity to change the perspective on the Elderly from the passive beneficiary to the active participants who dynamically interacts with their environments. In this context, this study focuses on the expansive learning in changing activity system from an educational situation to a learning circle through a K Senior Welfare Center case from the Cultural Historical Activity Theory. This research finds that, first, senior learners have experienced several levels of contradictions and these contradictions come to be main agents to change their activity system. Second, through this changing process of activity system, the Elderly tried to solve these contradictions with active attitudes and other elderly participants through building learning circles. As a result, the Elderly has experienced the change of their self-consciousness and the expansion of their boundary of life to community through changing activity system. This result suggests that the developmental theories and discussions about the Elderly need to consider their active and dynamic dispositions from ther activity, not just static and passive characteristics from cognitive perspectives.
