국문 초록

상담이론은 서양에서 출범했지만 동양 문화 안에서 동양인의 심성과 기질을 가진 동양인에게는 동양적 상담 접근방법이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 논어에 나타난 공자의 사상 연구를 통하여 동양적 상담개념을 탐색하는데 있다. 공자의 상담은 내담자를 존중하고 내담자에 대한 정확한 이해를 바탕으로 문제의 핵심을 예리하게 파악하였으며, 상담과정에서 모든 선택은 내담자에게 있기에 자발적인 참여를 강조하였다. 또한 촉진적인 의사소통 방법을 통해 내담자의 문제해결능력을 길러 주었고 건설적인 방향으로 내담자의 변화를 이끌었다. 끝으로 상담과정에서 인간의 무한한 발전 가능성에 대한 공자의 믿음 자체가 내담자의 변화를 이끄는데 가장 핵심적인 요소로 작용했음을 알 수 있다. 따라서 공자가 제자를 대하고 가르치는 대화과정, 즉 제자 교육방법은 현대 상담에 있어 인간을 이해하고 인간의 성장과 성숙을 촉진하는 새로운 시각을 제공한다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

There's been any amount of research on the Discourses of Confucius but it has been focused on the educational philosophy and moral philosophy of Confucianism. Research about modern counseling based on Confucianism were rare. Therefore, it is needed to connect the Discourses of Confucius with modern counseling, that is suitable to Orientalism, through the study on The Discourses of Confucius. The purpose of this study is to investigate the Eastern counseling concepts in "The Discourses of Confucius." After abstracting and analyzing words and phrases in the book, Counseling concepts divided into five parts; an encounter, assistance, change, interaction, and action generated on a daily basis. It is found that Confucianism is fraught with important consequence. First, a counselor is not a determinant but a mere assistant. A client needs to make all conclusion. Second, a counselor encourage clients to have a conviction about a personal change. Third, when a counselor respects client, a sincere help occurs in counseling setting. Fourth, an accelerative communication is based on counseling. Fifth, a counselor should grasp a client's nonverbal message on a daily basis. The simple skills or methods in counseling are not emphasized in The Discoursed of Confucius. Confucian counseling focus on unconditional positive regards and empathic understanding for clients in counseling setting. By accurate analysis about clients, a counselor can find the kernel of a problem. Through facilitative communication, clients can make a progress problem-solving skills and help facilitate positive changes. Confucius thought that beliefs of counselor regarding the possibility of infinite prosperity of human being, deduced positive changes of clients.
