세종 시대의 영재 교육이 현대 영재 교육에 미치는 함의

국문 초록

본 연구는 세종대왕 시대에 있었던 집현전의 영재교육적인 기능을 확인함으로써 현대의 서구화된 영재교육 시스템에 시사점을 주고자 함을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위하여 세종 시대를 중심으로 이 전 시대와 비교하여 바뀐 교육 정책에 대하여 점검하고, 세종의 학문 유도 방식과 인재관리 방안에 대하여 체크하며, 영재교육 과정 및 영재교육 진흥을 위한 법적인 제도 등을 점검하였다. 집현전은 과거 엘리트 중심의 영재 교육에서 탈피하여 개인의 능력을 중시하는 수월성 교육에 입각한 영재교육의 측면과 국가 발전이라는 영재교육의 가시적인측면이 동시에 고려되어 졌고, 여러 집현전 영재들이 여러 분야에 걸쳐서 다양한 산출물을 만들게 되었다. 그 이면에는 세종대왕의 토론(경연)을 통한 인재 양성과 탁월한 영재 리더십이 자리하고 있었다. 세종 시대의 영재 교육은 배타적인 영재 교육이 아닌 신분의 초월과 신구의 조화를 모색하였고, 전문적인 연구와 자유로운 연구를 위한 방안을 모색했으며, 연구 개발을 위한 자료 수집에 많은 힘을 쏟았고, 리더가 개발에 몰두했을 뿐 아니라 영재의 특성을 잘 이해하고 그에 맞게 영재들을 육성 했으며, 경직된 학습 풍토 보다는 토의 및 토론식 교수법을 택하여 창의적 발상을 유도하는 방식이었다. 영재교육 담당자에게는 이러한 영재교육의 역사적 전통을 이어 받아 여러 다양한 서구의 영재 관련 이론들을 체계적으로 재구성하는 노력이 요구되어진다고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

The aim of this research is that we give commentary to the current gifted education system which was westinized by checking the functions of ‘Jiphyunjoen’ at the concept of the gifted and talented education. To do this, we inspected the changed education strategies in King Sejong Times comparing with them in former times, checked ‘the method of Sejong’s conducting learning’ and ‘strategy of managing human resources’, and reviewed ‘the curriculum of gifted and talented education’ and ‘supporting system in law’. The ‘Jiphyunjoen’ broke with former elite-oriented gifted education, then consider ‘educational excellence program’ and ‘nation development’ at the same time. Many gifted students in Jiphyunjeon produced many good results in various areas. They were achieved by King Sejong’s exceptional Leadership skill and the ability to develop people using discussion. The characteristics of gifted education in King Sejong are surpassing a social position, pursuing harmony beteween the old and the new, groping professional and liberal research, pumping up collecting material for R&D. Moreover Sejong was absorbed in development and he understood the distinctive quality of the gifted, so he fostered the gifted according to its characters and using pedagogy based on discussion and debate. We need to reconstruct current gifted educational system using the example of traditional gifted education systematically.
