영문 초록

  This research is an analysis of aristotle"s philosophy of physical education focused on his psychosomatic view of body and mind. He interprets that all the universe including human beings is composed of form (eidos) and matter (hyle), Human mind or soul is form, while human body is matter.
  Based on this view of form and matter, Aristotle sees a human being as a psychosomatic unity. He rejects seeing human body and mind as two completely separate things like the captain and the boat. He sees mind without body or body without mind cannot exist. So the two are unified as one.
  On the other hand, Aristotle maintains, "Form cannot exist without matter, but form doesn"t exist for matter only." In other words, as matter cannot be defined or decided without form, it exists thanks to form. That is, because form is superior to matter and because human mind is more important human body, a human being can exist as a substance by way of form or mind.
  However, we have to be very careful. Even though Aristotle thinks of mind higher than body, he was different from Plato who saw human body as the grave or prison of human soul. Therefore, it is meaningful in the history of physical education that Aristotle regarded body as a living, life-forming foundation.
