영문 초록

  Much attention has been directed toward the possibility of relationship between nutritive state and resistance-susceptibility to infection. With this in mind, many experimentalists has sought for dietary factors that could influence the resistance or susceptibility of a host to infectious disease.   Interaction between malnutrition and infection may be synergistic or antagonistic. In humans, mostly all interactions has been synergistic although antagonism has been reported as often as synergism in animals with deficiencies of specific amino acids, thiamine, pyridoxine and folic acid. Most infections has an adverse effect on nutritional state. The hopeful sign is that both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses show remarkable recovery following adequate nutrition.   Practical intervention program is required for the control of synerigstic interactions between malnutrition and infections. Firstly, nutritional supplement and health care interventions should be given together. The total effect on health is probably greater than giving the services seperately. Secondly, early diagnosis and treatment by auxilliaries in respect of both the common childhood infections and in respect of early nutritional faltering through anthropometry are highly effective in reducing morbidity and in promoting health. Thirdly, maternal child care service and mothercraft are the greatest safeguard against malnutrition and illness in infants and young children.
