국문 초록

이 글은 이주민들이 한국어로 구연한 모국설화를 생생한 구술성과 현장성이 살아있게 정리한 『다문화 구비문학대계』를 활용하여, 자문화와 타문화에 대한 지식을 넘나들며 이해하고 공감할 수 있는 상호문화 감수성을 신장하는 문화교육을 제안하기 위한 것이다. 『다문화 구비문학대계』의 이주민 설화에는 이주민들이 모국의 정체성을 긍정하면서도, 한국과 모국이 가진 문화적 보편성이나 유사성을 적극적으로 공유하고자 하는 문화적 매개자의 모습이 생생하게 드러나 있다. 본고에서는 다국적 이야기판에서 여러 국적의 제보자들이 모국의 설화 구술을 통해, 서로의 문화적 차이를 즐기고 존중하는 상호문화 감수성을 신장하는 모습이 어떻게 실현되고 있는지를 논했다. 이주민들이 구술한 설화의 낯선 화소의 상징적 표상은 각 나라의 독특한 문화를 경험하게 하면서도, 삶의 가치를 상징적으로 소통하고 있다. 이때 이주민은 두 문화의 정체성을 가지고 모국의 낯선 문화를 상징하는 이질적 화소를 통해, 서양의 근대적 잣대, 자문화 우월주의, 물신화 등에 가로막혀서 보지 못했던 인식을 다시 사유하게 한다. 급속도로 발전하는 한국사회를 경험한 낯섦과 혼란 속에서 성찰했던 ‘내적 자아의 목소리’를 모국의 설화에 담긴 문화적 상징을 통해 공유하며 대안적 가치를 함께 생성하는 과정을 러시아 이주민 설화 <물의 신 바디노이(Вода бог)와 결혼한 딸>로 논했다. 『다문화 구비문학대계』와 『한국구비문학대계』의 상징적 표상을 매개로 한 문화교육을 4단계로 제안하고, 국어국문학과의 전공 교육에서 한국의 <장자못>과 베트남 이주민 설화 <바베호수>(Ba Bể)에 적용한 사례와 학생들이 상징적 표상을 활용하여 4단계의 과정을 거쳐 문화적 공감과 타자 존중의 가치를 생성한 문화교육의 사례를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to propose cultural education for fostering intercultural sensitivity, which increases understanding and empathy for one’s own and other cultures, by utilizing The Comprehensive Collection of Multicultural Oral Literature, an account of immigrants in Korea narrating oral folktales from their homeland in Korean. In the folktales in The Comprehensive Collection of Multicultural Oral Literature, immigrants affirm the identity of their mother country, but vividly reveal the image of cultural mediators who actively share the cultural universality or similarity between Korea and their mother country. In addition, this collection shows how intercultural sensitivity, through which one can enjoy and respect each other’s cultural differences, is enhanced as immigrants of various nationalities narrate the folktales of their mother countries in a multinational storytelling scene. The symbolic representation of unfamiliar motifs in these folktales provides an experience of each country’s unique culture, while communicating the values of life. The ideas about the identity of these two cultures expands the thinking of immigrants, who were limited by Western modern standards, cultural chauvinism, and materialism, by presenting disparate motifs symbolizing the unfamiliar culture of their mother countries. This is shown through the Russian immigrants’ folktale The Daughter Who Married the Water God Badynoi. In the curriculum for Korean Language and Literature major, the importance of cultural education to generate cultural empathy and respect for others is shown through a four-stage process by utilizing examples from the Korean folktale “Jangja Pond” and the Vietnamese folktale “Ba Be Lake” with symbolic representations.
