전남대학교 고미술전시회로 본 1950년대 대학박물관의 전시 과정과 의미

국문 초록

“전남대학교 고미술전시회”는 1957년 7월 11일~17일까지 개최되었다. 관람 인원은 연 20,000명 정도여서 매일 3,000명 정도씩 관람한 셈이므로 매우 성공적으로 개최되었다고 할 수 있다. 고미술전시회는 고미술품을 통하여 우리 선조들의 문화를 이해하고 민족문화의 발전에 이바지하고자 개최되었다. 이와 더불어 현실적인 목적은 이제 막 설립된 전남대학교박물관이 제대로 기능하는 데 필요한 고미술품을 기증받거나 구입하고자 한 것이었다. 고미술전시회는 서화부와 공예부로 구성되었는데, 모두 198 점의 서화류와 도자기‧토기 등이 전시되었다. 문교부에 보고한 “전남대학교 고미술전시회 출품목록” 에는 서화부 95점과 공예부 67점에 대한 상세한 내용이 남아있다. 이로 보아 고미술전시회의 구성과내용은 현재의 서화실 및 도자실과 비슷했을 것으로 생각된다. 고미술전시회는 전시준비를 시작할 때 이미 전시회의 취지‧개최요강‧규정 등을 갖추고 있었고, 전시가 끝난 후에는 여론조사와 문교부에 결과를 보고하는 등 상당히 체계적인 절차에 따라 진행되었다. 전시 준비과정에서는 전시 홍보와 관계 기관에 협조와 협력을 구하는 데 많은 노력을 기울였다. 또한부설전시회와 고미술 강좌 및 좌담회를 개최하여 전시회를 더욱 풍부하게 구성하였다. 이러한 점에서1957년에 이루어진 고미술전시회는 오늘날과 비교해도 손색이 없다고 할 수 있다. 고미술전시회는 해방이후 현재까지 알려진 범위 안에서 대학박물관의 첫 번째 특별기획전시일 가능성이 크다. 더구나 전시 관련 공문서와 관련 자료들이 잘 남아 있어서 1950년대 대학박물관의 전시 과정과 내용을 살펴볼수 있어 그 의미가 크다. 또한 호남지역에서 최초로 개최된 박물관 전시라는 점에서 그 의미가 더욱 크다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

“Chonnam National University Antique Art Exhibition” was held from July 11 to 17, 1957. As the number of visitors annually reached about 20,000, it was held very successfully. The Antique art exhibition was held to understand the culture of our ancestors and to contribute to the development of national culture through ancient art. In addition, Chonnam National University Museum wanted to receive or purchase ancient art pieces for improving the role of the museum. The Antique art exhibition consisted of the Department of Calligraphy and Painting and the Department of Crafts, including 198 pieces of calligraphy and painting, ceramics, and earthenware. The Antique art exhibition has the purpose, hosting guidelines, and regulations of the exhibition. After the exhibition, it was conducted fairly systematically, including public opinion polls and reporting the results to the Ministry of Education. Not only that, a lot of effort was put into promoting the exhibition. In addition, the exhibition was further enriched by holding an affiliated Exhibition, an antique lecture and discussion session. The Antique art exhibition is likely to be the first special exhibition of the university museum known to present after liberation. Moreover, official documents related to the exhibition and related materials are well-preserved, which is significant in that it is possible to examine the exhibition process and contents of the university museum in the 1950s. It can also be said to have a greater meaning in that it was the first museum exhibition held in the Honam region.
