앙리 드 툴루즈 로트렉의 여인상에 나타난 보색심리의 치유적 의미

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 앙리 드 툴루즈 로트렉(Henri de Touloue-Lautrec)이 신체적 열등감과 갈등을 극복하는 과 정에서 사용한 보색의 치료적 의미를 탐색하는 데 있다. 연구대상은 로트렉의 양가감정이 두드러지게 드러난 보색대비가 강렬하게 표현된 여인상 15점이며, 자료분석은 로트렉 회화에 주로 사용된 짙은 녹색조의 색상을 한 눈에 볼 수 있는 오스트발트의 표색계인 8색상환의 주요 색상을 중심으로 보색비율을 분석하였다. 로트렉 의 작품전반에 나타난 보색은 주로 흰색과 검정의 대비와 청록(Sea green)과 황갈색이 주는 보색대비 및 파랑 (Ulteramarin)과 황색(yellow)으로 나타났다. 이러한 보색이 주는 색채 심리적 의미는 양가감정을 조절하는 균형 적인 의미로 볼 수 있다. 로트렉은 성인아이의 기질적 증후를 보여주는 퇴행적인 정서를 지니고 있었기 때문에 그러한 자신의 욕구를 그림 속 대상에 투사시킨 것이다. 특히 오스트발트 표색계의 흰색을 중심축으로 하여 하 향방향으로 가면서 검정색을 지니고 있어 급격한 색의 대비를 이루면서 녹황 색조가 나타난 로트렉의 보색대 비는 내면의 심리적인 갈등을 해소하기 위한 치료적인 촉진제로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This study inquired into the therapeutic meanings of the complementary colors Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec used to overcome his physical handicap and inner conflicts. In this study, 15 paintings of females by Toulouse-Lautrec which showed a strong contrast of complementary colors indicating strong ambivalent feelings were chosen for the analysis. The rates of complementary colors in the paintings were analyzed based on the main colors of the eight color cycle of the Ostwald color system, which made it possible to check the shades of the strong green colors used in his paintings. The main complementary colors found in many of Toulouse-Lautrec's paintings included a contrast between white and black, between sea green and fulvous color, and between ultramarine and yellow. These contrasts of complementary colors reflect his attempt to balance the ambivalent feelings. Toulouse-Loutrec projected his degenerative sentiments characteristic of an adult child into his paintings. The white color in the Ostwald color system, the main color axis started showing black shades at the lower parts of the paintings, whereby the green and brown color appeared. This abrupt contrast of complementary colors worked as a therapeutic catalyst that helped Toulouse-Lautrec to resolve his inner psychological conflicts.
