르네 마그리트(René Magritte)의 작품에 나타난 말과 기수, 빌보케의 상징 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 초현실주의의 르네 마그리트(René Magritte)의 작품 중 말(馬)과 기수, 빌보케(bilboquets)가 들어 간 작품으로 형식 및 내용의 상징성을 심층적으로 분석하였다. 분석 작품으로는 ‘말과 기수’, ‘빌보케’가 그려진 총 11점의 작품이다. 본 논문에서는 분석 작품소개와 그 중 대표1-1), 2-2), 3-3)작품만 분석하였다. 분석 방법은 융 학파 압트(Abt)의 융 심리학적 그림해석에 기초하여, 본 연구를 위해 고안된 ‘분석자의 태도’, ‘형식 분석’, ‘내용 분석’ 3단계를 거쳤고, 작품제작 시기에 따라 3단계로 각 시기마다의 특징을 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 첫째, ‘말과 기수’는 마그리트가 새로운 변화를 꾀 할 때마다 반복적으로 드러났다. 둘째, ‘말과 기수’를 통해서 자신 의 무의식과 의식의 상호교류를 시도하였다. 셋째, ‘말과 기수’의 방향성은 마그리트의 내면의 심리 변화 방향 의 의미로서, 거의 모든 시기에서 표현된 왼쪽을 향한 ‘말과 기수’는 보상적인 내향화의 목적을 띠며, 마지막 시기에서 오른쪽 방향으로 바뀌어 외부현실과 정신적 세상이 갈등하지 않고 공존하게 되었음을 보여주었다. 시 기별로 변모해 가는 ‘빌보케’와 여기에서 자란 나무는 내면의 무의식적인 힘을 통제하기 위해 만든 우상이 실 제의 나무숲을 만들어가는 과정을 통해 마그리트가 세상과 관계를 맺고 정신적 가치를 뿌리내리기 위한 시도 의 과정을 보여주었다, 본 연구는 작품분석연구에 기초자료를 제공하였다는 점에도 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

An in-depth analysis on surrealist René Magritte's paintings which shows symbols including a horse, a jockey, and bilboquet was conducted. In this study, 11 paintings by Magritte, which shows the symbols were introduced and only his representative paintings,1-1), 2-2), 3-3) were analyzed. The analysis was based on Abt's Yungian interpretation of paintings. The analysis consisted of 3 steps: the analyst's attitude, form analysis, and content analysis. The paintings was grouped into different timelines. Each timeline was analyzed for its features following the three steps. The analysis found that the horse and jockey appeared repeatedly when Magritte sought change in his paintings. Second, the painter attempted to connect his unconscious mind with conscious mind through the symbols, the horse and jockey. Third, the directions of the horse and jockey were associated with the inner workings of his mind. In most of his paintings in different timelines, the horse and jockey headed in the left direction meant his attempt for compensatory internalization. The change of direction into the right at the last timeline indicates his inner state: the co-existence of the painter's inner world and outer world. The bilboquets changed along the timeline. Trees which grew from the bilbouquets turned into a forest. This process shows that Magritte created an idol to control the power of his unconscious and that he attempted to interact with the outer world and to establish spiritual values. The significance of this study is that it provided basic information for the analysis of Magritte's paintings.
