영문 초록

The author enaged in clinical study for the actue brain symdrome observing 50 cases of Jap-B-encephalitis that had been hospitalized in Seoul National Univ. Hospital from Sep, 4. to Sep, 30 in this year (1962). 1. Consciousness disturbance was noted already in two to four days after onset, and the younger was the earlier. 2. Severity of the consiousness disturbance imversely paralleled with patient’s age. 3. High fever group manifested more severe disturbance of consciousness than the other group. 4. Geneally, meningeal irritating signs were remarkablly noted. No relationship was noted between this meningeal irritating signs and severity of consciousness disturbance. 5. Generally, pathological reflexes were noted in minority cases. In the group of pathological reflex positive，there can be noted more severe consciousness disturbance than the group of pathological reflex negative. 6. But the usual immediately suffering cases, consciousness disturbance was developed from delir state, confused state and convulsive episode. In coma group, cases beginning with convulsive disorder occupied major part. 7. In peak stage, following psychiatric symptomes were noted in several cases ： psychomotor exciting irritability maniac episode catatonic stupor twilight episode Korsakoff type amnestic symptom complex 8. In the above mentioned peak stage symptomes, exciting and catatonic stupor revealed mostly in the group of active pre-morbid personality, but irritability and maniac episode in the group of passive pre-morbid personality. 9. All the expired cases during observing period, started from severe consciousness disturbance.
